  • Bates/Slowik Defense in Denver

Any predictions on how well the Bates/Slowik defense in Denver will function?

Jim Bates is Assistant Head Coach Defense and Bob Slowik is Defensive Coordinator and over the defensive backs.

Slowik was horrible as DC for the Pack in 2004 and Bates was great as DC in 2005. On the surface it seems like it could make for an awkward situation. Your thoughts?

Talent rises above all else. They have Ian Gold, D.J. Williams, Champ Bailey, Dre Bly. After that, not much else, but those are four really good players to build around. I'm guessing they finish close to the top 10 in yards allowed, but without being a top 10 defense in sacks or turnovers forced.
"There's a lot of interest in the draft. It's great. But quite frankly, most of the people that are commenting on it don't know anything about what they are talking about."--Ted Thompson

I think the matter and anti-matter will cancel each other out and Denver will have no defense in 2007.

Depends on who has the power. If its Bates, then they'll be fine. Slowik worked fine with the DBs under Donatell.

If its Slowik, then I am less enthusiastic.

They also ran different versions of the 4-3 defense. Slowik kept Donatell's under, Bates ran the over. One maybe a better match for the personnel.

Anyone know which defense is being run?
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.
