Perfect weather to check out practice
It's 84 degrees, bright sunshine and not a cloud in the sky on Thursday morning in Green Bay. In other words, a perfect day for a Packers Organized Team Activity (OTA) practice at Ray Nitschke Field.

The practice is open to the public, and a sizable crowd was on hand for the start of the session at 11:15 a.m.

Favre a no show, but Woodson attends
Brett Favre was not on the field for practice today. Coach Mike McCarthy had previously said Favre would take part in 9 of 12 OTA sessions. Favre is scheduled to hold a press conference this afternoon, and his celebrity softball tournament is on Sunday.

Cornerback Charles Woodson was in attendance for the first time at an OTA open to the media. Woodson didn't attend any of the OTA sessions last year.

Good sign. Woodson is the one guy who I didn't think would ever attend. McCarthy must be getting through to him a bit.

Wow...Woodson showed up. I think Thompson's devotion to building this defense is getting contagious. If some key guys can stay healthy, this should be a fun defense to watch this year.

GBRulz is suppose to be out there. Hopefully she gets some pictures and hopefully they are not just of asscracks.

Good to hear Woodson showed up. Maybe he was concerned Dendy might steal his job.

I bet they will be all of her secret lover Rodgers, not Harrel's behind.

                Other absences
Besides Favre, other players not in attendance at practice: cornerbacks Will Blackmon and Al Harris, linebackers Abdul Hodge and Nick Barnett and wide receiver Donald Driver.

Sounds like McCarthy is giving all of the veterans occasional breaks. Good move. They probably don't need to be there every day, and that way it doesn't appear Brett is getting special treatment. I'm sure the young guys could use the reps, and the veterans are keeping up with their playbook.

I just wish Harris/Woodson would be there on the same day... They are such a good combo, I wish the national media would give them some credit... Unlike undeserving pieces of crap like D Hall...

D Hall lets up 2 TD's in one game and makes the probowl...
Harris lets up 1 TD in ONE YEAR and doesn't make it...

                    Im still holding a grudge...

Hall's nothing but speed. He's a name, that's why he gets the nod.

Why do you think Albert Pujols gets the all-star spot at 1B, even though Prince is destroying him in the stats? It's a popularity contest.

                        Prince: .295/.379/.639 23HR, 15doubles, 51RBI, 30bb, 55K

                        Pujols: .302/.388/.547 15HR, 12doubles, 43RBI, 31BB, 26K

Now I'm a big time Brewers homer, but destroying is a bit rash. He's definitely hitting for more power this year, but its pretty close other than that.

This was at Edgar's Bowlathon, think they're discussing strikes and spares?

                              Favre has sore shoulder
Brett Favre didn't practice today or Wednesday at the Packers' OTA practices because of a sore shoulder.

At a press conference following today's practice, Favre said: "My shoulder was just a little sore. (I) could practice, but it really doesn't make a lot of sense to make it any worse. I think it's tendonitis or something like that."

Packers coach Mike McCarthy said Favre would not participate in the final two OTA sessions next Monday and Tuesday. McCarthy said Favre's shoulder was routine soreness and there was no cause for alarm.

"I'll probably take a week off or something and see how it feels," said Favre, "and then start gradually throwing and get back into it."

Favre is scheduled to appear in his celebrity charity softball tournament Sunday at Fox Cities Stadium in Grand Chute. He said he might be relegated to designated hitter status for the game. "I don't even know if that's a smart thing to do," he said.

Favre had off-season surgery for bone spurs on his ankle, but said it feels fine.
