  • Where is Abdul Hodge?

Does anybody know? From what I gather, he was a major disappointment last year. This was not, in my estimation, due to a lack of speed (I think they knew that when they drafted Hodge) but his poor attitude. Is he not attending because he's hurt, or is he just not attending?

I am majorly disappointed in this guy, whom I thought was going to be a real gamer in the NFL. I thought he had an AJ Hawk kind of attitude, not an Antuan Edwards kind of attitude.

From what I understood, he was no good in coverage. A fast, hard hitting guy that just could not be counted on to cover a WR or TE when needed. No coverage skills.

The fact he dropped in the draft last year was a sign that there must have been some flags raised on the kid to many teams. He seemed to play hard and do well at Iowa, but apparently he didn't come across well to a lot of people...because he fell 20-30 spots from where most people figured he would be selected.

I was hoping that he would surprise...but also figured he might not cut it. He wasn't going to take jobs away from Hawk or Barnett, so his chances of playing regularly were remote. Clearly, he doesn't seem to have accepted that reality very well. Whether it is the lack of playing time or the money...he doesn't look like a future piece of the puzzle at this time.

Frakly, I am not huge on Barnett. I know he can be decent, I doubt he can be Urlaer.

I truly believe, Hodge cab be better than Urlacher. So, I was saddended that we re -signed Barnett. I wish Hodge had had the same oortunity to start that Barnett had.

IIRC, Hodge has a knee injury and is recovering from it. I think MM said Hodge will be held out of OTA's and would be ready to go for training camp.

I disagree. Hodge doesn't have the size, speed, or pass coverage ability (such as it is) that Urlacher has. Hodge is a two-down LB at best...and based on his showing vs. SEA, he may not even be that. I think he's got talent. I'm disappointed in how he played last year and am hoping he turns it around.

            Thanks for reading my post.

            1. No problem, we disagree.
            2. You're probably right, but Hodge has a motor.
            3. No, I disagree with this. It remains to be seen.
            4. That's hefty to judge his ability based on his only start.

Barnett was shit his first 6 starts, but showed flashes. IMO, he never lived up to those flashes. I ponder what Hodge might look like if he had started from day one.

Granted this is pure speculation on my part, but I think the Seattle game was a true test on Hodge's ability, to see if he could adequately replace Barnett. I'm not saying that Barnett was on his way out, but he was injured and his injury was the type that could hinder his job. (not having any use of one of your hands makes it harder to tackle someone)

Anyway, Hodge failed...miserably. The staff then knew that Hodge...AT LEAST AT THAT TIME...is a liability and needs more work. Enter Barnett and the club. To me, I got the impression that the staff felt more comfortable with an injured Barnett then they did with a healthy Hodge. If Hodge would have excelled in the Seattle game, Barnett may have been sidelined for the rest of the year.

Hodge may turn it around, but looking at what transpired last year, the staff was not comfortable with Hodge in the middle.

Okay, so at this point it's an injury thing. I get it.

Let's see what the guy does in camp.

Pittstang, how was A-Rod for you in the garbage time he played? Are you more encouraged by our future QB that our reserve MLB?

Barnett was lost his first 6 games. Deer-in-the-Headlights lost, and he was the nominated starter (including the reps with the firsts) from day one.

Hodge also has the DITH look, cause his colledge game was actually good enough to go higher then he did.

Put another way, if I (Tarlam!) were to run a football, I would much rather face Barnett than Hodge.

                    Hey Tarlam come on now.

You are high on Abdul Hodge like alot of us once were; but we are seeing that he may fit a 3-4 scheme better than a 4-3. He operates as possibly only a two down LBer Vs the run with his straight ahead tackling style and give little to us in coverage.

That means he may not cut it in Green Bay or the NFL unless the system suits the man.

Saying that Abdul Hodge will be better than Brian Urlacher has no basis objectively Tarlam.

On what basis could any of us attest to that prediction, given that Urlacher is one of the premiere defensive players in the NFL today and possibly it's best MLBer?

I said he COULD, by saying I THINK he will be better than Urlacher.

I have zero premise. I just believe it. I am in no way Harvey or WISTy, people who know the game.
