We got a glimpse of Ted Thompson's draft style today. some liked it, some hated it. Before you make your final decision lets take a look at the 3 drafts before TT arrived.

    Year Round Player

    2002 1 Javon walker
    3 Marques Anderson
    4 Najeh Davenport
    5 Aaron Kampman
    5 Craig Nall
    6 Michael Houghton

    2003 1 Nick Barnett
    3 Kenny Peterson
    5 James Lee
    5 Hunter Hillenmeyer
    6 Brennan Curtin
    7 Chris Johnson
    7 DeAndrew Rubin
    7 Carl Ford
    7 Steve Jouse

    2004 1 Ahmad Carroll
    3 Joey Thomas
    3 Donnell Washington
    3 B. J. Sander
    6 Corey Williams
    7 Scott Wells

The thing that jumps out at me is that we ended up with a total of ONE 2nd round pick and four # 6s and 5 # 7s.

It's still early, but I am willing to see where Ted Thompson takes us.
Doughnuts, is there anything they can't do?

Sherman's philosphy was opposite TTs. Traded #2 to move up to get Walker, traded two #4s to get Glenn, traded #2 to get Al Harris. I'll give him this one bit of leeway - if he truly was playing for 'the present' - to try to get a championship before Favre left, it was at least a reasonable goal. He should have had a great shot at it in 2002 if not for the string of terrible injuries.

Ultimately, I think the bottom line is that Shermy was just so-so in evaluating talent.

So-so doesnt win you 10 games or 12 games. So-so win you only 4. Sherman wasnt so-so; he was pretty good.

The thing that jumps out at me is that Sherman traded away all of our 2nd round draft picks. Often the talent in the 2nd round is pretty darn good. Another reason why we don't have depth...

Looks like Sherm should have quit while he was ahead. His drafts got worse the longer he was GM

I think that as he went along, he got more confident in himself and didn't listen to, or trust, others opinions. Early on, he probably leaned on his scouts more. Also, If I remember right, Hatley was involved until his last draft.
