  • Packer signing ???????????

    From nfl.com:

    Thursday, July 12, 2007
    .....
Green Bay Packers Marviel Underwood signed
    .....
His rookie contract runs through 2008. Not sure what this is about.
Haven't found anyother mention of it anywhere, though I have looked for 3 days!

    Maybe he signed some autographs?

A site with this url http://www.topix.net/football-players/marviel-underwood
reported that Rouse had signed. Maybe they got Rouse and Underwood mixed up?

After reading this post I looked and it was bright as day on the NFL website transactions page.

It is unusual in that at least one side of the negotiations is happy enough with the deal to mention it publicly.

        1) While I suspect that some of the salary cap was used on an extension, I have been unable to find any information anywhere.

        2) There may have been a modifcation of some of the details other than money. That could make it so minor it is not worth a word publicly as it could be misinterpreted by the public.

        3) It could have converted money from to be earned to guaranteed or other cap manipulation with no gain except in accounting. Given the size of the cap money it was more likely to reduce it and increase it (unless it was to be used on some rumored big name offensive player).

        4) An incentive package inserted not likely to be met so cap money can carry over to next year? Not likely as those occur late in the season.

Something definitely happened even if it was minor.

You would think packers.com would have at least mentioned it. I'm guessing that since Rouse got signed that day, there was a mixup.

            Rouse was signed June 8th.

Interesting. Not sure then. Probably one of your scenarios.

Great, not that I don't like Underwood but shouldn't a player actually PLAY before he signs another deal?
