  • John Madden is greater than Vince Lombardi

John Madden is greater than Vince Lombardi:

I was watching the Chargers vs Seahawks game on Sunday and John Madden went into another one of his incoherent babbles and he basically stated that he thinks he is greater than Vince Lombardi because he took over an already successful team in the raiders and Lombardi took over as the head coach of the Redskinsa team that pretty much sucked. And its harder to maintain greatness than it is to rebuild it

This guy is as bad as listening to Michael Ervin babble. Hope he goes the way of Ervin soon!

He has a better bus. And he has a better video game contract.

But I'm going to go out on a limb and say Vince was the better coach.

I'd want to here Madden's actual quote before making any judgments. He's never gotten through a game at Lambeau without talking about his respect for Lombardi.

So what? If video games were around in Vince's time, he would of mopped the floor with Madden.

Can you imagine Lombardi '67 for the Xbox 360?

It could possibly be better then Tecmo Bowl (one of the greatest video games of all-time).

Tecmo Bowl was good; Super Tecmo Bowl was even better.

Bo Jackson rated excellent was the best player in any sports game.

I can't fault any guy at that level being honest. I'm sure all of those great coaches feel they are the best...that is what makes them great. Parcells probably thinks he's better than Lombardi. Shula probably thinks he's better than Lombardi. If they didn't, they are pansies who wilt in the face of pressure like PGA Tour pros wilt around Tiger. If you don't believe you are better, then you have no chance at being better.

In the end, who cares? Lombardi is still the only guy with his name on the championship trophy.

I wouldn't doubt if more people are familiar with Madden because his name is on a video game vs his coaching career. I for one am guilty of that. I am not big on vintage football (before 1985 is vintage for me in football terms). I always knew him as the spokesperson for Ace Hardware and that he was a football announcer with a video game. It wasn't until years later that I knew he was a coach of the Raiders. However, when people think of Lombardi, they remember him for his accomplishments alone. The same cannot be said of Madden.

If the subject was girth, then Madden is definitely greater than Lombardi.

I loved Tecmo Bowl. Bo Jackson and Eric Dickerson were unstoppable.
