Report: Vick's lawyers want less than 1 year
Plea deals by three co-defendants have quarterback backed into corner

RICHMOND, Va. - Michael Vick's lawyers are trying to work out a plea deal under which the Atlanta Falcons star quarterback would spend less than one year in prison, less time than the prosecution wants, ESPN reported Wednesday.

ESPN also said the attorneys have recommended to Vick that he take the plea deal if the jail time is less than one year.

Facing increasing pressure to strike a deal with prosecutors, Vick conferred with his attorneys for hours Wednesday.

The conference call came two days after Vick’s two remaining co-defendants scheduled plea hearings, presumably agreeing to testify against Vick if his federal dogfighting conspiracy case goes to trial as scheduled Nov. 26.

“The defense and Michael are meeting,” Collins R. Spencer III, a spokesman for Vick’s five lawyers, said Wednesday afternoon. At least some of the parties were participating by telephone in a meeting that began in late morning and continued well into the afternoon, he said.

“It seems they’re going to be talking a while,” Spencer said.

My guess is that Vick is figuring on a 1 year suspension from the league, so he wants a sentence of less than 1 year so he can be eligible toplay next year.
