Packers Sign FB Cobb, Release S Underwood

    posted 08/21/2007

The Green Bay Packers signed FB Erryn Cobb, a rookie free agent from Northwestern, and released S Marviel Underwood. Ted Thompson, Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations, made the announcement Tuesday.

Cobb, a four-year letterwinner and team co-captain in 2006, played in 49 career games for the Wildcats. He began his career in 2003 as a linebacker before moving to fullback in 2004. Cobb was the team's starting tight end in 2005 and played 'superback', a combination of tight end and fullback, as a senior in 2006.

The 6-foot-1, 241-pound player also blocked two punts in 2006. He will wear No. 25.

One of the Packers' fourth-round picks in the 2005 NFL Draft, Underwood played in 16 career games for Green Bay.

Probably not enough to get rid of Bretsky's sig, but he will be able to give Korey Hall a breather.

Here's the Northwestern page on him:

Huh...tight end, fullback, linebacker and special teamer. That'll make a messy depth chart
Teamwork is what the Green Bay Packers were all about. They didn't do it for individual glory. They did it because they loved one another.

I think Barbre is safe, but lately it hasn't been good to be the Packers 4th round selection!

They say he's signed as a FB, but if he has any skills catching the ball, they could line him up in a two TE. We'll see if he's good enough to stick.

Looks like a camp body to me unless the guys a great blocker.

He had more tackles than he had rushing atts. and receptions combined.
Think I'll roll another number for the road.

sounds like another special teamer, and if he's as versatile as it sounds from all those positions he's played then it'll be a welcome addition. It's nice to see special teams getting some attention this year.

I think he's just here to give Hall a break. If the guy shows something, maybe he'll have a shot at the practice squad.

sounds like m3 might be looking for an h-back similar to what cooley (sp?) does in washington.

We needed someone to play while Miree gets healthy, then gets sick every other game so we can call this guy up at home and he will come and play for Miree that Sunday. Other then that, Miree is the shit!

We don't need any stinking fullbacks!
