While I think Holiday is a viable option, there is a risk with giving him reps - he could damage his shoulder.

Anyone remember when Conseco went out to the mound for the Boston Red Sox because they had no one left in the bullpen? Tore his ACL, out for the season. He had been a highschool and minor league pitcher as well, so it's not like they just threw someone into the fire.

If they want to give him reps, he should just work on taking the handoff from center, and handing off to an RB. That's all.

I don't know if he's gotten a fair shake in Oakland, which has always been a mess since he's been there.

Walter looked OK coming out of college; I'd be fine with giving him a shot. He might be an upgrade on Thompson. I say Bring John Stocco back !!
      Seconded!

        this is a good point.

If they wanted to use Holiday at QB, even in emergency roll, he should have been throwing the ball all summer.

I don't think Holiday is in picture as a QB, we don't need to mention his name.

The #3 QB never plays in a game; when is the last time a 2nd string QB played in a Packer game ?
TERD Buckley over Troy Vincent, Robert Ferguson over Chris Chambers, Kevn King instead of TJ Watt, and now, RICH GANNON, over JIMMY JIMMY JIMMY LEONARD. Thank you FLOWER

they have been known to play. It's pretty rare. Its still part of their job to be able to play.

If we get down to our 3rd string quarterback it doesn't matter if its someone who has played the position in college (i.e. Holiday) or our long snapper, we're in trouble.

We can flush this season down the toilet if we get to the 3rd string at QB.

                  I saw it, & I loved it.

                  Always hated that gashead.

There were always steroid rumors back in the day. Canseco was proof positive. He gained 30 pounds in an off-season, but his identical twin stayed the same. What more did you need to see?

The rules for QB's are wacked. I am not exactly sure what the exact rules are but I know that it isn't like any other position. If you play your 3rd stringer or something you can't bring back in your #1 or something weird like that. I think those strange rules ultimately make the decision on whether or not we keep a #3 or activate one on game day. We don't always go into a game with three active QB's anyway, most teams don't. If we were to get down to our #3 the game is probably lost anyway and Holiday can hand the ball off as can anyone else. The last time this happened, Craig Nall came in and played really well for us in a losing cause and I believe the time before that was TJ Rubley at the dome and he lost the game for us. If I remember right, we were in that game. It doesn't happen very often and one regular season game isn't going to make or break the season unless you are scrambling to get a playoff spot late in the season. If we come out sharp and not flat, I would say keep a #3, if we come out flat, then a #3 may be better spent on developmental player. By mid-season we should be able to make a better assessment at that. For now, I think they should just go with 2 and see how we start out the season. If Favre goes down, which is a possibility given his age, then Rodgers can hopefully stay healthy. I think Favre has earned enough respect in the league that most players aren't going to try and take his head off but simply drag him down. Accept for Chicago of course since he owns them.

THe rule is that if you your Qb is inactive on game day and you use him, the others can't come back in the game unless it is the 4q. If you activate the 3rd QB for the game, the rules don't apply.

Thats right, unfortunately some of us on this forum can't seem to understand the NFL rules on 3rd string QBs. the NFL allows teams to suit up a third string QB, but he doesn't count on the active game day roster unless he is used in the game. If that happens the 1st string Qb can not come back in the game.

If you carry three qbs on the roster, the third string QB does count on the season roster. Why not stash your third string qb on the practice squad whether it is Ingle Martin, or Paul Thompson?

I am not arguing to make Holliday into the third string QB, he would be considered and emergency option if Favre and Rodgers goes down in the same game. Sterling Sharpe was an emergency QB in the late 80s and early 90s

                        Its not rocket science people.

Speaking of backup QB's, I don't see anyone singing praises for Rodgers outstanding performance last night. Off the bandwagon already? I thought he did a better job of looking off his receivers then he has done up until this point. Other then that, he really stunk up the place.

What seems weird to me is that if a #1 or #2 guy goes down in a game, most NFL teams go sign some guy off the street for the following week and don't elevate the #3 guy. To my mind, what's the point of having a #3 guy? If Favre and Rodgers go down in the same game, the Pack's not going to score any points after the second injury anyway (ever see any third string emergency QB guide his team down the field?), so why not just make Holliday the #3 and pray a lot? Even if you keep Thompson or Martin or some other developmental guy, if Favre and Rodgers get hurt you're just going to go out after the game and sign Vinny Testaverde or Drew Bledsoe anyway, and they'll be starting the next week.

I would hope that the Titans starters would dominate Rodgers and the third stringers.
