Matt Brock had a knack for getting the QB in my memory. He rarely had a start with the Pack, but he'd get a handful of sacks every year.

That throw was unfriggin' believable. All the angles showed just how hard it was--even though Sterling was wide open. It was long, it was across the field, he was fading left. Unreal."There's a lot of interest in the draft. It's great. But quite frankly, most of the people that are commenting on it don't know anything about what they are talking about."--Ted Thompson

Matt Brock was a DE who played 8 years and had a total of 19.5 sacks. Just looked it up on nfl.com. His high for a season was 5."There's a lot of interest in the draft. It's great. Shawn Patterson was a DE who played 6 years and had 11 sack. Never had more than 4 in a season. I always hated having white DEs back then.

All they did was stuff the run. Darn, we were really bad back in those days."There's a lot of interest in the draft. It's great. But quite frankly, most of the people that are commenting on it don't know anything about what they are talking about."--Ted Thompson

You were only 11 years old when he played. Listen to me, son: Patterson was an excellent athlete, he blew his knee out just when he was getting good (2nd year, I think) and was never the same afterwards.Originally posted by HarveyWallbangersShawn Patterson was a DE who played 6 years and had 11 sack .

I just realized watching these old games and living through a 3-0 start...I no longer miss the Holmgren era.One time Lombardi was disgusted with the team in practice and told them they were going to have to start with the basics. He held up a ball and said: "This is a football." McGee immediately called out, "Stop, coach, you're going too fast," and that gave everyone a laugh.

Keep in mind he did that as a backup. He was never a full time player.Originally posted by HarveyWallbangersMatt Brock was a DE who played 8 years and had a total of 19.5 sacks. Just looked it up on nfl.com. His high for a season was 5.more freedom, less government. Go Sarah!

Nah, he started many years.
I think your memory is fuzzy on Brock. He was a terrible pass rusher. He was in the Shawn Patterson, Don Davey, Robert Brown mold of DE that we had for years. Ezra Johnson was about the only guy in about a 15 year period that could get after the QB on our defense. Tim Harris too, but he was a LB/DE."There's a lot of interest in the draft. It's great. This is from an article that I found on JS Online:Originally posted by hurleyfanThat pass is still great to see... even after all these years!
Is that the game Sharpe threatened to hold out, or start of 1993??
At one point very early in his career, Favre was the lowest paid starting quarterback in the NFL at $360,000 a year.
From the end of the 1993 season and before the 1994 season began, Favre became a restricted free agent. The negotiations between agent Bus Cook and general manager Ron Wolf took awhile and in that span, fans debated in the newspapers and on the airways whether the team should give Favre the $5 million a year he wanted, and the results seemed to be half and half.
Meanwhile the Los Angeles Rams made an offer and the New Orleans Saints gave Favre a workout. Favre, Cook and then Saints head coach Jim Mora Sr. had dinner, but even back then, at just 24 years old, Favre couldn't see himself as anyone other than a Packer.
"I want to finish my career in Green Bay," he said that summer.
Making it clear to everyone who would listen that he wanted a deal done before training camp began, because he had no intentions of holding out, Favre got the five-year, $19 million blockbuster deal on July 14.
Interestingly a few weeks later, the Packers' top receiver, Sterling Sharpe, did stage a one-day holdout over his 10-year, $15.5 million contract he signed in 1991 and threatened to sit out the season. Assuming a leadership role from the beginning, Favre decided not to censor his opinion over Sharpe's contract issues.
"Sure, Sterling's the guy I've thrown to the most the last two years," said Favre. "But I can't fold my tent, then walk into the huddle and let the others see that I've given up. In my opinion Sterling's under contract, and he should honor that contract. If they give him more money, what's to stop other guys from wanting to renegotiate? The Packers can't do that. Listen, no one's that good."
Sharpe returned and caught a touchdown pass to kick off the 1994 season with a Green Bay victory against Minnesota.

I have to stubbornly insist that Shawn Patterson does not belong in that list.Originally posted by HarveyWallbangersI think your memory is fuzzy on Brock. He was a terrible pass rusher. He was in the Shawn Patterson, Don Davey, Robert Brown mold of DE that we had for years. .
He was a sleek pass rusher, both quick and fast.
He coulda been a contenda
I just rememeber being so disappointed when he got hurt, he was on his way. I know you dug up some stats, but who you gonna believe, me or your own lying eyes?

I've watched every Green Bay football game since 1967, and as my first passion in life.Originally posted by HarveyWallbangersNah, he started many years.

Regardless of what it says on NFL.com, Brock was not a regular starter, nor an every down player. But when he WAS playing, something always happened. (You could see that in the Detroit playoff game.)
Even NFL.com says he got 4 sacks in 1990 with zero starts. He also had 2 interceptions which is not something a DL usually does. In any one year, there aren't too many double digit sacks by even full time starters.
The guy was a solid role player and an occasional playmaker and I enjoyed watching him and followed his career with interest. He was somewhat like Keith McKenzie in his ability to make plays in a reserve role, although Keith was quicker and smaller.more freedom, less government. Go Sarah!
