Ferguson finds role with Vikings
Unlike his ex-Packers/current Vikings teammates, safety Darren Sharper and kicker Ryan Longwell, both of whom left Green Bay on less-than-amicable terms, Ferguson said he still talks to about "25 guys" on the team. He said he called Sunday to congratulate them and Favre, who tied Dan Marino's NFL record for career touchdown passes with 420 in the Packers' 31-24 win over San Diego.
"I'm in a great situation. I'm thankful that it went down the way it did to where I can really help this team and really, really do some (positive) things," Ferguson said.
Asked if he wished he was still with the Packers, given their 3-0 start, he replied, "Not at all. I'm a Viking. I'm not even concerned about what they're doing there. My concern right now is (being) 1-2 and the number of situations we have to correct.
Ferguson had eight passes thrown his way in Week 2 against Detroit, catching three of them for 29 yards. Last week against Kansas City, he started in place of an injured Troy Williamson (hamstring) but didn't have a catch.
"He played 54, 55 plays (Sunday). He stepped in, had no assignment errors," Vikings coach Brad Childress said. "I will tell you, what he did tremendously is he was tenacious in terms of blocking people down the field. He had people on the ropes."
Ferguson expects to do more this week against his former club than just help the Vikings defensive coaches with his insight into the Packers' offense.
