Jets sign Clowney from Packers' practice squad

    By Journal Sentinel staff
    Wednesday, Oct 3 2007, 11:00 AM
This just in from Greg Bedard:

WR David Clowney was signed to the active roster of the New York Jets from the Packers practice squad. To take his place, the Packers signed former Oakland Raiders TE James Adkisson.

Clowney was Green Bay's fifth round draft choice out of Virginia Tech.
    Draft Brandin Cooks WR OSU!

Didn't take them long to replace him did it?

Damn. If this kid learns to catch he might actually be good.

Clowney has a lot of potential.

        He's just SO green.

He may be back on the Jet's practice squad again & we can get him if we want him back.

It's too bad he didn't come in with enough return skills to win the job. Then they wouldn't have had to stash him on their practice squad. Tramon Williams and Will Blackmon are NFL ready corners, more than Clowney was an NFL ready WR, so, TT got more from those guys serving multiple roles (although Blackmon is not returning punts just yet with the cast). Having Clowney be our return specialist would have been enough reason to have him stay on the active roster, but Williams and Blackmon must have been that much better than him, or not appreciably worse.

The difference, of course, between TT and Sherman is that TT can take a chance on a raw player with speed because he has 9 or 10 other draft picks each year. Sherman invested two draft picks in most of the players he drafted, including the long-shots!

He was a 5th round pick. In all likelihood he will not even be in the NFL in 4 years.

There will be other short, skinny, fast guys who can't run routes available next year, too!

I think I jumped off the Clowney bandwagon after seeing him in a Packers uniform for the first time.

I'm not upset other this either. If he was any good, they would have signed him to the 53 man roster when Holliday went down instead of signing Francis and then Bodiford.

Me too, especially when he circled around and went after passes like an average high school kid.

Initially, I was hopeful they could just send him out occasionally to run deep routes and get open, but from all reports he could not use his speed to get open at all. I was hopeful he would show something as a returner, but that never happened either, although I suppose it still could.

All in all I would have liked for the Packers to have been able to bring him back next year, just to see. Of course, they still might be able to.

                            I really don't mind this.

Who was the fullback that the J-E-T-S JETS-JETS-JETS Stole off of our practicce roster some years back? As I recall, he hung around the league for quite a while.
