Ferguson is gone this year...Thompson is bringing so much young new talent that he is going to need that roster spot for somebody else.

I, too, think the writing could be on the wall for Ferguson this year. There are a lot of things working against him:

      1. Driver, Gardner and Jennings will in all likelihood be ahead of him on the depth chart.
      2. Rogers very well could be the return man, giving him a spot, too.
      3. Cutting Ferguson is not an expensive undertaking. It costs about the same to keep him or cut him, depending on when it is done.
      4. There are inexpensive options to replace Ferguson (Boerigter or one of the half-dozen or so others on the roster with a chance).
      5. Ferguson has been a disappointment when given an opportunity.
      6. Ferguson has an injury history.
      7. Ferguson has not really made an impact on special teams for the last two years, and there are young guys who may do as well on ST, are as yet unknown and may provide more upside potential than Ferguson does at this stage of his career.

To my thinking, Ferguson makes the team only if he is clearly the #2 or #3 receiver coming out of camp. I do not think that is likely, unless injuries crop up.

        Patler;

I agree. How many "acceptable" veterans got cut last year to make room for younger players with bigger upsides?

My average punt is about 45 yds. I've never clocked the hang time, but I'm no where near as good as guys from Melbourne. Those guys average 55-60 yards on punts. They can land it on a bullseye, too.

We struggle the most with the punt formation, because we have a different game.

I think the Jets have an Aussie punter...

Yup, there are long lists every year for most teams. I think you can say Diggs, Chatman, and R. Thomas all fall into that category just recently. They are what they are, they will not be more than they are right now, and younger plays who MIGHT develop more can replace them now with minimal drop off.

When you throw in what it would cost to keep Ferguson this year and maybe cut him next year, versus cutting him this year, it seems advantageous to make the call this year. That is why I thiink he will be gone unless he is the clear #2 or #3 receiver. Being #4 won't cut it.

Have you ever punted an American football? Punting a rugby ball is more skin to a kicking soccer ball than it is to an American football, isn't it? I have punted soccer balls and American footballs, but never a rugby ball, so I am serious in my question.

I asked you a serious question, too, Shamrockfan/Patler...

Yes, I have, and I have no problems with them. I prefer them, actually, cause they're heavier. The Aussie Rules balls feel like their filled with helium!

Closet? What closet. Partial (I think it was Partial) posted Patler's Snoopy avatar a week ago or so in a message on here. I asked if I could use it. He said yes. I finally got around to using it today. I thought it would be interesting because people have accused me of being Patler.

Listen, people, TT's got a plan for next year for a punter. He's going to get by with BJ "Shank You" Sander this year, then draft (in the sixth round) next year that kid from Baylor who punts like Ray Guy and tackles like Lawrence Taylor.
