Green Bay - The Green Bay Packers and tight end Donald Lee agreed a four-year contract extension on Monday that will pay him just under $12 million, a source said.
Lee's agent, Brian Levy, could not be reached for comment.
Lee, 27, is tied with James Jones for second on the team with 29 receptions and Lee is fourth in yards (382).
Lee's current contract, which was set to expire after this season, paid him a total of $1.475 million in base pay the past three years with Green Bay since being picked up from the Miami Dolphins, the team that drafted him out of Mississippi State in the fifth round of the 2003 draft.
Lee has become even more valuable this season with the knee injury sustained by Bubba Franks, who Lee had supplanted as the starter.
"Donald Lee is a young man that has totally bought into the offseason program," coach Mike McCarthy said Monday afternoon. "He's taken every opportunity. He's been very consistent. I can't say enough about him and his production in the first eight games."
We'll have more information on the deal later in the day.Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

Packers signed TE Donald Lee to a four-year contract extension.
The deal is said to be worth just under $12 million. Lee, a third-stringer until this season, has capitalized on his starting opportunity. He's excelled as both a blocker and as a receiver, averaging 13.2 yards per catch on 29 receptions. Only 27, Lee is a solid long-term TE2 in fantasy leagues.

Good for Donald Lee. Another case of TT being rewarded by having faith in guys on his roster instead of throwing big money at marginal free agents.I can't run no more

Congrats to DLee and good signing TT. This guy is also a good fit for the team character-wise. He's a small-town guy who appreciates GB, except the cold. He's a good story that's still being written. It would be awesome if we could find his twin next off-season.
Is Tory Humphrey still rehabbing for the Packers? Does anything think he could be a quality backup?"Everyone is entitled to his own opinion, but not his own facts." -Daniel Patrick Moynihan

Packers did not release Humphrey. He is on IR. Don't know if anyone has seen enough of Humphrey to draw a judgment, although the coaches seemed to be happy with his play before he got hurt.I can't run no more

Good for both parties to the contract.
I am curious as to the signing bonus to see how much room the Packers have to sign others with this season's cap money.
Perhaps a Corey Willims injury makes his value low enough for the Packers to keep him. I doubt it though. He will get huge dollars in March.

Nice move.
I keep hoping Williams gets done soon. He's a good player. There is no need to let him go even though Jolly is probably a little better (all around).
Hell, if you have to go 50/50 with Pickett/Harrell and 50/50 with Jolly/Williams next year I wouldn't mind. There is always room for a good DT.Formerly known as JustinHarrell.
