I don't know what Anderson's contract status is, but I expect they will keep both around for another couple years to slug it out against each other.

I believe Anderson is an RFA after this season and a UFA the following season.

Actually, it doesn't look like the Browns paid so awful much for Quinn, based on todays salary cap. $7.75 million guaranteed over a 5 year contract, with $12.45 million in salaries and other bonuses during the 5 years. Possible further escalators based on how much he plays could take it to a total of $30 million. I don't know all the details, but I would guess the $12.5 million in salaries and bonuses are much heavier toward years 4 & 5 than years 1, 2 and 3. With the cap going up and up, it doesn't look like Quinn's contract will force their hand anytime soon.

It will be interesting to see how they handle it.

why doesnt the nfl take this pick away from them?

The Patriots had to give something up to get it, they traded their 28th pick last year for the selection. You can't take away something that they had to sacrifice to get. If they took that pick away it would be like taking away last year's pick and this year's pick as well.

Good sense dictates that TT should upgrade the team the most that he can. No matter what the position.

If CB is our biggest need, and when our pick comes up, TT cannot wave a magic wand and have Deion Sanders Jr. magically appear from his ass. You have to take what the draft offers you. If you can improve another position significantly, it makes no sense to marginally improve the CB position, just because it is a need area.

And because TT has a history of picking according to this manifest, we are in great shape now and we will only get deeper.

TT knows how to draft. I was screaming that he didn't do the Cleveland trade, but he looks like a genius to me today.

It certainly looks better because Cleveland will probably be picking in the 16-22 range, but I wouldn't call him a genius yet for turning down the deal to draft Harrell. A lot of posters would still take that deal now.
TERD Buckley over Troy Vincent, Robert Ferguson over Chris Chambers, Kevn King instead of TJ Watt, and now, RICH GANNON, over JIMMY JIMMY JIMMY LEONARD. Thank you FLOWER

I don't see it that way, but there is a case to combine both decisions.

I see TT using the pick, because he felt Cleveland's pick in 08 was gonna be lower than 16 as a separate decision. TT felt he was not getting value.

The Harrell pick is a whole different discussion.

Sporting News Mock Draft. In this mock, the top 5 CB's are gone before the Packers pick, so there would not be value there.

                                MOCK DRAFT: ROUND 1
                                PICK TEAM PLAYER POS SCHOOL
1 (1) Dolphins Glenn Dorsey DT LSU
The Dolphins' defense, with Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas, is getting old. The explosive Dorsey would add promising youth to their front four.
2 (2) Patriots Malcolm Jenkins CB Ohio St.
(from San Francisco) The Patriots do not know if they can keep Asante Samuel, so they might reach for the very talented and athletic Jenkins.
3 (3) Jets Quentin Groves OLB Auburn
The Jets' pass rush has struggled this season. Groves is an elite athlete who can play rush linebacker in their preferred 3-4 defense.
4 (4) Falcons Brian Brohm QB Louisville
Some NFL teams have Boston College's Matt Ryan rated ahead of Brohm, but we like Brohm best and former Louisville and current Falcons coach Bobby Petrino certainly knows first-hand Brohm can run his offense.
5 (5) Rams Ryan Clady* T Boise St.
Clady won't be the best player on board at this spot, but with Orlando Pace's recent injury history and the Rams' poor line play this year, the team should target the super-athletic and consistent early-rising junior.
6 (6) Bengals Darren McFadden* RB Arkansas
Rudi Johnson is getting old for a running back, and rookie Kenny Irons missed the season with a knee injury. The Bengals can get next year's Adrian Peterson here.
7 (7) Raiders Chris Long DE Va.
The Raiders' defensive line has been very inconsistent in recent years. Here, they can turn back the clock to grab the fine pass-rushing son of former Oakland great Howie Long.
8 (8) Chiefs Matt Ryan QB Boston Coll.
Damon Huard wasn't a long-term answer, and young Brodie Croyle has left much to be desire. So the Chiefs should have a plan in place to reunite Herman Edwards with Chad Pennington when the Jets release the latter, and then draft Ryan for the future as he gets groomed behind Pennington.
9 (9) Ravens Mike Jenkins CB South Fla.
The Ravens may think about a quarterback, but they also could stick with defense and address cornerback, where age is getting to both Chris McAlister and Samari Rolle.
10 (10) Saints Keith Rivers OLB USC
Scott Fujita and Scott Shanle are solid linebackers, but Rivers has the speed and explosiveness to be a true-impact player who can improve the Saints' defensive speed and playmaking ability.
11 (11) Texans Kenny Phillips* S Miami (FL)
The Texans would surprise many if they pass on a wide receiver in the first round, but with Kevin Walter and Andre; Davis having solid '07 seasons it could free up the team to grab the best safety in the draft.
12 (12) Broncos Tommy Blake DE TCU
Mike Shanahan has a long history of gambling in the draft, and he may have the chance to grab the best draft's defensive talent, whose off-field issues will be a concern for any team drafting in the top 10.
13 (13) Panthers Andre' Woodson QB Kentucky
The Panthers have been lost without Jake Delhomme, and there's no guarantee he will be ready for 2008, either.
                                14 (14) Bears King Dunlap T Auburn
The Bears might hope Andre' Woodson slides to them, but if he's gone, they can grab an elite talent to boost their struggling offensive line.
15 (15) Eagles DeJuan Tribble CB Boston Coll.
The Eagles need to think about the possibility of losing Lito Sheppard and Sheldon Brown as free agents soon, and here's a potential future replacement.
16 (16) Redskins Lawrence Jackson DE USC
The Redskins need to boost their edge pass rush. Jackson, very productive in college and very instinctive, would be a good upgrade.
17 (17) Cardinals Antoine Cason CB Arizona
The Cardinals' secondary has struggled to find long-term starters. With Eric Green injured and Antrel Rolle best suited for nickel back, it's worth giving the super-athletic Cason a shot.
18 (18) Bills Early Doucet WR LSU
The Bills have struggled to find a target opposite Lee Evans to open up their offense. Doucet, a dangerous open-field runner, would nicely complement Evans' downfield explosiveness.
                                19 (19) Vikings Tony Hills T Texas
The Vikings may debate between several offensive tackles, but they should take the most physically gifted one, despite the fact Hills broke his leg late in his senior season.
20 (20) Lions Colt Brennan QB Hawaii
Mike Martz loves grooming quarterbacks whom not everyone loves and with Brennan regarded as a
21 (21) Cowboys DeSean Jackson* WR Cal
(from Cleveland) The Cowboys should consider both cornerback and wide receiver. Jackson, however, is a special talent that they couldn't afford to pass up here.
22 (22) Titans Andre Caldwell WR Florida
The Titans need to bring in some playmaking receivers to help Vince Young continue to improve their passing attack.
23 (23) Chargers Michael Oher* T Ole Miss
The Chargers need help at right tackle and while USC's Sam Baker is the safer choice, Oher has the talent to be very special if he can handle the mental side of the NFL.
24 (24) Seahawks Ray Rice* RB Rutgers
Shaun Alexander is having a disappointing season, and there are whispers that he never again will be an elite back. Seahawks GM Tim Ruskell would be wise to start shopping for Alexander's successor.
25 (25) Buccaneers Leodis McKelvin CB Troy
The Bucs have Ronde Barber on one side but have been trying to find a good corner opposite him. The super-athletic McKelvin is worth a shot, despite his small-school pedigree.
26 (26) Giants Kevin Smith* RB Central Fla.
Both Brandon Jacobs and Derrick Ward have struggled to stay healthy, and Ward is an impending free agent. Still, the Giants have run well because of their strong offensive line, and Smith has the combination of power, toughness and athleticism to star as their next great feature back.
27 (27) Jaguars Calais Campbell* DE Miami (FL)
The Jaguars need to inject some youth into their edge pass rush. So they can stay instate for Campbell, who can be an immediate-impact player in their line rotation.
28 (28) Steelers Frank Okam DT Texas
The Steelers need to address their aging defensive line. The talented Okam can be a valuable backup while he learns and then becomes a starter in a season or two.
                                29 (29) Packers Jake Long T Michigan
The Packers may have found their back in Ryan Grant, but they would benefit from improving their inconsistent offensive line. Long, who consistently opened running lanes for Mike Hart throughout his Wolverines career in a similar zone-blocking scheme, can step in immediately at right tackle or guard.
                                30 (30) 49ers Sedrick Ellis DT USC
(from Indianapolis) The 49ers have been working to add explosive defenders. Ellis would give them a nice penetrating and pass-rushing tackle to put stud rookie inside linebacker Patrick Willis in better position to make plays.
                                31 (31) Cowboys Sam Baker T USC
The Cowboys don't have a huge need at offensive line, but that's the luxury of having an extra-first round pick. They can draft Baker for depth now with the idea of starting him at tackle a couple years down the road.
32 (32) Patriots Gosder Cherilus T Boston Coll.
The fact that the Patriots have clinched a playoff berth as AFC East champions makes it a foregone conclusion that they will forfeit their first-round pick in the wake of Videogate. Cherilus or another offensive lineman would have been a good pick here.
