Bills' Kevin Everett walking on his own in and out of rehab

Kevin Everett is walking on his own at a Houston rehab center, the latest significant progress by the Buffalo Bills tight end in his remarkable recovery from a serious spinal cord injury.

"He doesn't have a full natural stride but, yeah, he's walking," a person close to the family told The Associated Press on Friday. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of Everett's status.

That is wonderful news. It seems as though he got terrific care in Buffalo right after the injury and that did a lot of good in making recovery later possible. Thank God.

The treatment he received on the field was cutting edge and possibly carried risks we haven't even heard about. But given the result, it looks like the doctors in Buffalo and Miami are onto something. A great story.

Don't know how extensive his walking is, but it would be cool to see him walk out to the 50-yard-line to do the coin flip at a Bills home game. Hope it happens.
