  • Look back at 2004 roster

Yes, TT blew up the roster, some by choice, a few by necessity. This is the 2004 roster from packers.com. Bold type designates players still on GB. An asterisk designates a player who I believe collected an NFL paycheck for at least a portion of this season, but not from GB.

Which ones would strengthen todays roster? (Sharper and Wahle are "gimmes")

That right there is a lot of pink slips. You're sure Sharper would make us that much better? He seems to eat a LOT of toast...Feast or famine with him.

That roster defines Mike Shermans tenure as GM. He hit a few players (6 or 7 in 4 years), but the big picture, his overall effectiveness, is summed up in this thread.

Now, now; I said nothing about how much better!
Sharper would improve our group of safeties, even if he wasn't a starter.

Let's leave Mike Sherman out of it, OK?

Anyone on the roster in 2004 that could help now and isn't here?

          Ruegemer as a backup, maybe?

For a playoff run, I might wish we still had Longwell!

I'd say Paris Lennon could help. I think he'd be a better use of a roster spot than Craig Nall.

I'd rather have Davenport than Morency too.

The Packers are extremely thin at LB. Lennon would be a good addition.

I'm real indifferent about Davenport. Just when you need him he seems to be hurt. He has been dinged up with Pittsburgh even without playing a lot. Of course so has Morrency.

I would say that Flanagan and Wahle would improve the OL.

Davenport would give better depth at RB than what we have now.

Sharper at S, maybe Diggs at a back-up LB spot.

Ruegamer was just a thug, I don't think he would function with this scheme

                      ...and I miss William Henderson.

Its amazing how many of those players are out of football.

Hard to believe that team was a playoff team. That was the last year the Oline was together and Green had his last spectacular year. Javon also came on that year and then proceeded to be injured for the last 3 years on and off. That was Brett's last good year before the team crumbled around him too.

They had a few aging players that they counted on but no depth. The team today seems much stronger top to bottom. Looking at this roster gives me some optimism for our playoff chances. There are teams in the playoffs that are much less complete (offnese, defense, ST's).

Longwell is a more reliable kicker...although he's not much use outside of 50 yards anymore. In Lambeau, in January, he might not be any good outside of 40 yards.

Take a look at some of those NFC North rosters outside of Green Bay from 2002-2004, and you'll better understand why we made the playoffs so easily.

Some of those teams will surprise you that they were NFL teams.

I would take the 4th and 5th round picks for R-Kal Truluck for 800 Alex....

Diggs and Davenport I think would help, along with Wahle and Sharper.
