I don't think it's real acurate. It seems the LTBE incentives aren't calculated in and teams like Minnesota and now Green Bay are using these to push cap space forward. I had heard the Vikings were going to be sitting at around 30mil but I'm not sure if that is true or not.

Ras, that's a good point. And many of the teams way under the cap are under 40 signed players. Some of them may be expensive. Still, you have to start somewhere when the info isn't always available.

18 mil isn't bad considering the lack of big names whose contracts expire in 2007. An unofficial list:

            Ryan Krause
            Frank Walker
            Corey Williams
            Tracy White
            Rob Davis
            Vernand Morency
            Colin Cole
            Atari Bigby
            Ruvell Martin
            John Kuhn
            Ryan Grant

Things won't get interesting again in free agency for a few more years. The recent TV deals bumped the cap up so much that it will take awhile for even the NFL big spenders to push themselves up against the cap again...outside of the Redskins, who could find a way to push themselves to the limit if they had no cap limit.
My signature has NUDITY in it...whatcha gonna do?

Yeah, other than Favre, the Pack are in great shape with most of the players being in the beginning or middle of contracts for '08. Management has done very well for the Green and gold in this area. Usually we're complaining we aren't spending enough. The great thing is, after this year, no matter what happens from here on out, if Favre doesn't have a career ending injury and says he's coming back fairly soon in the offseason, we will be ripe for the picking as far as free agents are concerned. It'll be like when we got Reggie. the Mosses of the NFL will want to come to a team with a chance to win the Superbowl, and the thought of winning it in Green Bay with a legend for you're QB will give TT a lot more leverage in next year's market.

From the limited amount of action we've seen of Rouse, I'm not going to be sulking if we lose Bigby.

I agree. I think that Bigby is very much like a certain middle linebacker we drafted that never plays. He hits very hard, plays at full speed all the time, but doesn't have enough talent in other areas of his game to be successful. I feel he's a liability out there in coverage. Maybe I'm too hard on him, and he's usually a step behind his man because he's a rookie, and if given time, will be in better position. If so, he could be another Sanders out there. If not, I hope we don't have to find out the hard way, through the end of next year. Rouse has had very little play, and we love him for his two picks in two games, but, we may be casting stones on both these players a little too soon. I know one thing, I'm starting to think that Collins isn't ever gonna get it. What was his Wonderlic score? 7?

The number of players signed is a big factor.

There is always monkey buiness pushing cap space forward.

Only Andrew Brandt knows for sure. It is a full time job for each franchise to keep a grip on it.

As an outsider you can only know ballpark figures. There are some good web sites that try to stay in the ballpark.

With such a young team it is safe to say the Packers are in no danger of the cap trouble of 2005.

Funny to see Tenn up at the top - they were in absolute cap hell just a couple of years ago - that's why McNair had to go...

You guys serious about Bigby getting monster $$$? He's been good at times, but inconsistent. I didn't see him getting all that much...

Whether those numbers are real accurate or just ballpark numbers, it's accurate to say that a lot of teams have a lot of cap space, even though many of them have a lot of players unsigned.

That bodes well for a guy like Corey Williams, assuming he's interested in being overpaid by someone, and not well for the Packers.

While I agree with those that think a legitimate attempt to sign Williams should be made, he could end up signing a contract that would turn the team's overall salary structure on its head, which would pose future problems, with all the guys that will be coming due in 2009 and beyond.

It'll be increasingly challenging, yet important, for this young, talented, winning team that has a lot of guys that the team will want to re-up to keep order in the team salary structure.

                              Bigby:

                              11/15/2006: Signed a two-year contract.

                              2007: $360,000

                              2008: Exclusive Rights Free Agent

Other than a holdout, Bigby comes back at a reasonable price.
