I have never done this. I feel this is a shame.

Are there any good places to go snowboarding in Wisconsin?

If there were "good" places to go, I'd still live there.

I was about to say the same thing. It is quite depressing to pay 45.00 dollars to go when I spend more time in the lift than I do the slopes.

All of the above is true, but you have to start somewhere. I started skiing in Wisconsin at Tyrol Basin and Devil's head. Now I can ski and snowboard and I was snowboarding 10,000 feet above sea level on Superbowl Sunday!

Ski resort home to 260 inches of average snowfall, 2,300 ft. vertical drop & the largest beginner terrain in the Southwest – Snowbowl is Where Arizona Skis.

My friend has a cabin near big powderhorn in Michigan. Have any of you ever been there? It's kind of expensive to make a weekend of it when you factor in gas, but it might be fun to go check it out.

I love to ski! Trouble is here in the Northeast, we'll go for long stretches of time with out natural snow, so we get mostly man made.. Then add in the sometimes warmer temps, and we get lots of ice!

p.s. Newbie "shredders" are a pain in the butt! Sliding down the hill with board perpendicular to trail, acting like a snowplow!

Suppose same could be said for newbie skiers!!

Man, we used to get trashed and try to ski at Tyrol many years ago, had a blast.

I guess I sound like a ski snob. I'd suggest that anywhere will do when you are a beginner. You won't be ready for 3000 vertical feet for a while anyway. It is nice to have softer snow rather than ice. It makes the sport much more learnable and enjoyable. So that is why its nice if you can pick and choose when you go, right up until the last minute.

It can be a very expensive sport, or it can be pretty reasonable if you can do it the way I do it, with a season pass. And its a lifetime sport that you can easily participate in well into your 70's and sometimes 80's. My family regularly gets all 3 generations out on the hill.

Its still as much fun today as when I was a kid. But god I hurt afterwards.

Youre too fat to ski Partial. I suggest monster trucking instead.

Since i partake in both, i would suggest that you start with skiing if you are gonna do it where there is no powder.

If you board for the first time, you are gonna be on your ass quite a bit. Not so fun on packed snow.

                          I can attest to that

Never got the hang of boarding, so I'm sticking to the skis

My first time i bruised a rib when i wiped out and fell on my walky talky. Couldn't do anything for a month.

On midwestern snow..two edges are better than one.

I live to ski....both Alpine and Nordic. I have bought a seasons pass at
http://www.alyeskaresort.com/ for going on 35 years or so now. The long winter up here can get to you but the skiing is always pretty good. There is so much backcountry it's nuts.
