  • Nike's Phil Knight: Love'im, Hate'im, or both

Today's Oregonian has an extensive article about Nike's co-founder Phil Knight.
Years ago, he and UO Track Coach Bill Bowerman started a shoe company from scratch. It is now one of the worlds Fortune 500 companies.

Nike employs thousands of workers locally, nationally, and internationally. Knight has personally donated tens of millions of his own money to the UO Athletic department.

Detractors to Nike claim his Asian factories have histories of worker and human rights abuses. Some critics claim that Knight has too much voice in UO Athletic Department policies including the hiring and firing of coaches.

I read that article and I'm not getting a feel for it to enable a response OPF.

Maybe I'll come back to it at another time. I'm certainly not down with any company that employee's people at ridiculously low wages in third world countries, when unemployment issues exist in our own.
