i'd also like to know what "slamming whitey" means. were they chanting "kill whitey", or was it something much less mild.

all it takes if for someone against obama to come up with something crazy and start to spread it around the net. some people out there will think its fact and continue to think that even if its proven to be 100% false

i could spread a rumor saying i heard that mccain has a very bad heart and records show he only has 2 years to live. now, as far as i know thats 100% false. bet i can promise you theres someone out there that will be thinking about that when they go to vote

Several valid points there.

I tend to agree, if a tape like that existed, it would be out and about. It would NOT have actually been made by either the Clinton people or the RNC. It would have to have been sold to them, and in that case, it would probably also be leaked elsewhere once the seller got his money.

Also, it's true, the accusation against Michelle doesn't sound particularly substantial. It seems to me that the main harm to Obama would be to undermine his rather unbelievable claim that he didn't know about the worst of Wright's remarks.

Tarlam, it seems to me that you are lumping scandalous type stuff and disloyalty type stuff altogether. While we have had plenty of both, it seems like since Clinton (Bill) anyway, the disloyalty stuff is a far greater problem than the morality/scandall stuff.

The bottom line in all of this is that there are infinitely worst and more relevant things about Obama's positions on the ISSUES than about his family and associates.

I think if either Clinton or McCain have such a video and are timing the release to maximise the impact to get a) nominated in Clinton's case or B) elected in McCain's case, the idea is to manipulate the masses to beat the oponent.

My observation is merely dealing with potential information, not morality or loyalty. I repeat, I am not concerned by this. In this case, we are talking about potential racist remarks. Living in a country where 6 million Jew were exterminated, I can fully understand why racism should be a concerning issue.

First, the rumor is not true...Rev. Wright and Michelle Obama slam whitey all the time but both of them are too egotistical to ever share a pulpit.

There will be no October surprise because McCain doesn't play that way for one thing (although there will be "swiftboating" ads up the gazoo with the material that's already out there) and the Clintons will have used anything else by the time of the convention.

And finally, look at Red's comment above and behold the usual msm spin on any negative publicity regarding Barack Obama: the "journalists" themselves minimize the event, explain the event in a ridiculously positive context, or compare it to some other negative event in order to dilute impact.
