No doubt. Hopefully, we can step back from this after Iraq and Afghanistan have been resolved. Let others that sit closer to Iran and North Korea deal with them. I doubt anybody will though.

I know you are being cynical, but there is nothing wrong with forming an alliance of Democratic countries for taking collective action. Makes good sense to me, NATO is increasingly obsolete. Not sure if they will be a security organization, at least inititally.

I don't know if it will be pulled off, but don't see why you sneer at idea. Do you have a specific objection?

It's not a bad idea but what is the objective of this group?

I have to say I don't know. I have read-in my own notion of how it would operate. Which I can speak to at GREAT length if you wish.

Yeah, I understand that. I just doubt that any European country gets to hear as much about what the rest of the world thinks is best for them in their elections as we do nor are they expected to take those opinions seriously at the risk of being called ignorant to world affairs.

I could be wrong, though since I don't live in Europe. Maybe there's stories all the time during European elections about who the American people want elected to lead them.
That would mean that most Americans have a clue what's going on in European politics....

I'm sure you would Blue Dog!
I'm just pretty skeptical that a group of our best democratic friends are going to commit lives and money to changing the world when they really wont do it now.

ya, but europe is now the EU, composed of a bunch of funny little states, each with their own politics. Too much to keep up with. Some of the little statelets are ruled by Kings, others have Czars. Italy has a sort of People's Court.

Europeans don't keep up with Wisconsin politics either.

We are all pretty delighted that you declined Hillary, believe me.

We would be very encouraged if you now declined McCain.

Not that we claim to know anything about it! We know nothing! But we do have feelings.

That was Tarlam! on behalf of every free non-American worldwide.
Tarlam, I'm curious. Are you voicing your own opinion? Or merely telling us which way the polls are running over there?

The reason I ask is that much of what I've seen you post is good sensible reasonable--some would say conservative stuff--completely the opposite of the positions of that America-hating loon, Obama.

For that matter, how certain are you that the solid citizens formerly known as Euro-wimps really ARE all that anti-American/anti-Bush in light of the fact that they elected Sarkozy and Angela Merkel--a couple of very decent relatively pro-American/friends of Bush?
What could be more GOOD and NORMAL and AMERICAN than Packer Football?

Talking to much of my family, a large portion of which lives in Europe (both England, Scotland, and France) it is almost unanimous in the thinking that Bush is, to a degree, incompetent. I wouldn't call it Anti-American, it's more a feeling of skepticism. I know that when we re-elected Bush a lot of Europeans were awestruck.

Tex. I am as conservative as they come, so, even though I don't have an opinion on McCain, he'd be my choise, personally.

So what you are getting in this thread from me is literally the world view - not only Europe. Fact is, President Bush does not enjoy a lot of respect from the man in the street outside the USA. The position of President most certainly does. I want to reitereate that I don't see a lot of people with intimate political knowledge, though, and you will have noticed, I don't throw too many stones if I am ignorant on something.

All hail Partial, Presidential historian and master of the English language.

Please, if you think Obama's the worst candidate ever you better hit the history books. McGovern and Mondale were both worse candidates for their respective parties than Obama will be.
