I just subscribed to napster and was listening to a indie playlist and some of the bands are really good. I gotta admit ive been listening to too much popular musics and is missing a whole damn lot.
Good for you. They continue to spoon feed you crap and tell you its great. I know you love cold play. Another great band is Reindeer Section. A supergroup of Scottish artists (arab strap, snow patrol, etc.).

Thanks I-Mike. That sure brings back some memories! I the the Oils are still around, they must be 50 year olds by now. The Gurus, I dunno about what happened to them. They were hugely popular, though they never made it internationally like Midnight Oil...

                    • I like a lot of stuff on that list, Nick. Perhaps I'm not so old after all.

Jack, the new Better than Ezra cut, "juicy" hit local radio for the first time this morning and I immediately thought of you. I like it--nice hook.

                      • I'll chime in, here are some of my favorites

U2 (still one of the best live shows you can see)
Arcade Fire (remind me of a young U2, very raw)
David Bowie (often copied, never even close to the original)
Ween (crazy brothers who f*cking Rock)
Aphex Twin (insane techno, completely original sound)
The Beatles (still such good music)
                        Beastie Boys (still love em)
                        Air (french electronic group)
                        Beck (so Funky man)
Atmosphere (Minneapolis hip-hop that's damn good)
The Cure (Disintegration and Wish are still some of the best albums I've ever heard)

                        There's more......

Nice list, though by the time the Cure hit Dis/Wish I was way over them. In Between Days is my favorite newish Cure (much prefer the older/rawer Cure).

BTW, Air was the best show at Coachella 3 years. If you like them, check out M83 and Phoenix.

                          • I forgot Bjork.

Have you checked out both of those Cure albums though?

I've heard M83 but need to check out the other one. Thanks. Was NIN at Cochella?

I hear NIN and Bauhaus are touring together, should be a great show.

Yeah, I've heard both those albums (i think we are dating ourselves by calling them that though). I feel the same about them as I do DM. It's all pretty good, but, they really haven't had a new idea in a LONG time. Both are in that Rolling Stones phase of their careers. You catch them cause they are legends, but they long since have lost the fire.

Phoenix was the original backing band for Air. Superb. I'm sure you've heard it, but I love the soundtrack to Virgin Suicides. Playground Love is pure melancholy.

NIN: Not 3 years ago. Headliners were Cure (very bad show, no energy) and Radiohead (amazing show). Highlights were unannounced Beck, Death Cab, Mogwai, and Belle and Sebastian. Lowlight: Wilco cancelling. Lots of great bands.

Last year Bauhaus were there. No NIN. But, with Coldplay, Snow patrol, Chem Bros, Doves, Mercury Rev who could complain. Stereophonics put on a hell of a show.

Massive Attack and Sigur Ros will be great this year.

                              • I think the cure have a much better career of music then DM. DM had three great albums and some hits in between. Wish represented a resurgence by the Cure in the early 90's and succeeded greatly. I was only in 8th grade when that came out but I started listening when I was twelve.

I think one of the reasons I like U2 so much is that they are really pretty good at re-inventing themselves. Some of their best stuff comes after they become stale. Zooropa is my favorite. I liked their last album, but think their next wil either be great or be terrible.

I like Wilco, too bad they didn't show. Speaking of death cab, I love the first postal service album, hopefully they can recreate that on a second.
