  • Who won the debate...

Granted, these are not the Gallup polls, but we can certainly learn something from them.

Non-random (unscientific) polls on AOL and MSNBC web sites show Biden winning 48 to 45 and 78.6 to 18.9 respectively.

(clearly we should toss out msnbc..and i'm not joking)

Randomly selected subjects on three other polls also show Biden winning:

    CNN/Opinion Research Biden 51 Palin 36
    CBS Biden 46 Palin 21
    Fox Biden 61 Palin 39

In the CBS poll, of the uncommitted voters, 18% now say they will vote Obama/Biden, 10% now say McCain/Palin.

Bad news for Mac when even the Fox poll shows Biden winning.

I thought it was a push, but I didn't like a few things palin said (greed caused the credit crisis).

I did find it amazing that biden seemed to have answers ready for some pretty abstract questions....I'm just saying. Once he even excitedly burst into his answer before the moderater actually finished.

Palin did what she needed to do, avoided the questions and spoke to the things she wanted to which are always going to sound better than trying to stumble through your thoughts on the fly.

I thought Biden won. And, surprisingly, didn't gaffe in a typical Biden manner.

I thought Palin did what she had to do. And, while her folksy ways may appeal to some it sure doesn't appeal to me...regardless of political party.

I do give her credit for her jabs at biden..the RR ref...say it ain't so joe, there you go again. But, I also think that she takes advantage of being a woman. Biden can't appear to be a bully towards her..and also..when she winked about convincing Mac about drilling in ANWAR..it was like saying her womanly charms would convince him. That is just my opinion.

I thought Biden was far more substantive than Palin and answered the questions...Palin didn't answer many questions. I often felt like she had memorized answers and was simply regurgitating..which is still impressive since she has been cramming. But, there is no way she can match Biden.

I thought it was about even...depending on what way you think politically you could make a case for either of them. Ifill was pretty fair. I didn't think she showed favoritism. The only critique I have of Ifill, and this was in her moderating skills, is that she asked them both a different question at the same time. She had Biden answer his first, and due to going back and forth on the question they never got to Palin's question. It sure seems both Biden and Palin wanted to get out of the same sex question issue real fast and Ifill obliged.

I think Biden came off as a guy that could only talk about the current administration and the failure of government to stop the current crisis...this guy has been apart of washington since Vietnam! he is part of this problem.

Palin avoided the questions in Regan like manner. She was poised and only talked on what she wanted and deflected the attacks on Mccain well. She comes off as folksy and small townish which I personally would rather see in a congressman than a VP.

                good analysis of palin.

Biden: that is part of the plan. That is politics...he has to link Mac to the current admin...that is strat 101. By doing so, he forces Palin to talk about how Mac is different than Bush and give their plan..which she couldn't do in specifics.

So, either they are different..which potentially alienates pro bush voters (the few that remain) or he inextricably links them together..which leaves a sour taste in independents mouth.

Vietnam: Yep. He ran on getting us out. You might want to thank him on that one.

I thought it was a wash. Both did what they came to do. No one screwed up. No one blew anyone away. I thought they both came across as much more likable than Obama and MCcain did in their debate however. I doubt many minds were changed either way.

Somebody had to. The U.S. congress wouldn't lift a finger.
