After lunch the players lounged about the hotel patio watching the surf fling white plumes high against the darkening sky. Clouds were piling up in the west… Vince Lombardi frowned.
Once the shock of defeat wears off I'm sure y'all are going to do a great job of constituting a loyal opposition while spending a decade or two in the desert mapping out the rise of the neo-neo-conservative movement from out of the ashes of the W administration.
Many on this board have posited that Colin Powell has endorsed Obama strictly on race.
Is this also true for Buckley jr., Chris Hitchens, Smerconish, and Charles Fried?
I would particularly be interested to hear why RR's solicitor general and Republican/strict constructionist icon would endorse Obama.
I don't get it, you have told me that conservatives were rascists, now you are trying to make the point that a conservative isn't a rascist? What gives, I can't follow your logic.

Powell didnt run for president back in the 90's because he's black. His reason, not mine. It's obviously important to him. For most of us Ty, race issues have become boring to evolving to insulting having to apologize for being a white middle aged male.
Bottom line, most of us dont care what color a guys skin is. All the inference to the assumption that somehow it's important to us becomes insulting and tiresome.
Lombardi told Starr to "Run it, and let's get the hell out of here!" - 'Ice Bowl' December 31, 1967
He didn't run in the 90's because he's black and didn't think a black man could win. It costs a whole lotta money to run for prez and if he didn't think he could win, then at the time it was likely a decision of economy and expenditure of massive time and effort. I wish he had run in 2000. I believe the country would be much better off.

I never said all conservatives were racist. I presented a "square is a rectangle, but not all rectangles are squares" argument.
In an earlier thread, it was postulated by the conservatives that Colin Powell was endorsing Obama strictly on race. So, i presented some other conservatives that are endorsing him...surely they are doing it because of race.

Again, perhaps by some, but I doubt it was very many that believed it was strictly based on race . Most conservatives agreed that race was A FACTOR. Getting back at Bush, repairing his rep, perhaps securing a position in the new administration, etc, are other factors. Most liberals who can think know it was multi-factorial too

There were plenty..and not one was saying what you just said.
More importantly...as you said..there were some. They made argument.
But, i've noted that not one conservative will answer why these conservs are endorsing Obama.
You can keep up with the attack on me...doesn't both me one bit. But, it just shows how bankrupt you are.
Honestly, I think some conserves (Hitchens?? conservative??) don't think Palin is qualified, and others don't like McCain because he's too liberal. It's hard to tell with a guy like Buckley because the reasons he stated don't make any sense.
Again, I said that there might be some conserves who thought Powell's race was STRICTLY the reason, but I don't know who they are. Please identify them, with evidence.

After reading the conservatives on this forum, I believe that most of them ARE closet racists.
At least that is how they come across with their disdain for certain groups.

Race: When i have time. I did a quick search of "powell" and a 19 page thread in which i believe that argument was made was returned..i don't have the fortitude to go thru it right now. Though, i can say with 99% certainly that Tex and 98% that Sheep posited it had to do with being black.
Hitchens is certainly a conserative. But, what about the two RR guys.
Buckley: Made sense to me. Perhaps you need to think about why it doesn't make sense to you.
So, are those conservs angry enough about Palin to vote for a ultra liberal Dem valid? Does their criticism of Palin ring true to you? Or are they just idiots?
Some of us liberals who criticized Palin were saying the same things....are we idiots, disengenous..or do we have a valid reasons for thinking she isn't qualified?
Personally, i can't thank Mac enough for that pick. While it energized the conservative base..it alienated moderates, intellectual republicans (buckleys, hitchens, etc) and eradicated any hope of courting independents.

I started a thread on that.
The arguments I don't buy were made by Buckley and some lady Kathleen Parker. Will overdid it, but his concerns were valid. Lib criticisms were mostly way over the top.
Hitchens conservative? Maybe ala carte.
