P, Why didn't you just say that in the first post. If he didn't know how to value cards, he certainly wouldn't have known what Becketts is.

I need to find out how much some old comic books are worth. When we were cleaning out my parent's house we found a box of comic books that are I'm guessing in the range of 40-50 years old.

It's how I stay competitive with you in post count

I assumed he knew what a beckett was as it seems like he has a lot of cards. Maybe I was just an uber dork in my youth. I used to flip cards with the local shop, but they have long since closed.

Comics can be worth a lot. Definitely worth looking into.

I started collecting basketball and baseball cards around 1990.

I even have some box sets that are still unopened.

I also used to send cards to pro players with a note and return envelope asking for autographs. Most were really cool and sent them back - a few notables were completed dicks and basically took my cards and sent back a standard note inviting me to their basketball camps (Shaq and Hakeem Olijuwan were the worst). I sent a gold plated card (at the time worth $50 to him and never got it back). The coolest was Jim McIlvaine - who apparently never got any fan mail and wrote me a series of letters.

I guess some of the autographed cards might have some value... but probably not.

I have some baseball cards from my youthful collecting days. Might support my retirement, huh?

I had a subscription to Baseball Beckett as a kid. They make one for every sport that has cards. There is even have a beanie baby one. Pick it up at Barnes and Noble. Its doubtful that you'll actually be able to sell anything for the price in there but it its a place for you to start.

If they are 40-50 years old I'm sure they are worth a good chunk of change. Probably more than sports cards. It also depends how good of a shape they are in. There is still a market for comic books. In Chicago every year they have a HUGE comic book show where thousands go.
