This is particularly handy for images you want to keep for long term. On the other hand imageshack is a "post as you go" type site and is better for pics that you'll only be posting for 1-2 posts and you're not concerned for keeping that image long term.
Both sites will give you all the codes you need for posting it anywhere on the web. They give you the HTML and php/BBcode for forums, and also the exact URL where the pic is hosted.
The best feature about imageshack is that they also give you the option to post the pic as a clickable thumbnail:

This is especially nice for forums because a small thumbnail loads ALLOT faster, and for people that are still on dialup it's a godsend and allows then to view threads that otherwise they would close out because of the long time it takes for some images to load.
