  • Is mercy a virtue?

    Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these

    Well, since we're quoting Scripture,

    Jesus said, "He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will disclose Myself to him." (John 14:21)

      You're equating poor with being a lazy fuck.

          Blessed is he who sits in the dark and contemplates the Word of the Lord.

          Forgive me Father, for I have sinned. I procrastinated in signing up for a free converter box. Please rescue me from the horrible fate of a blank TV screen. My parents upstairs won't let me watch their digital TV.

          Lord have mercy, Christ have mercy, Lord have mercy! Let there be light on my TV!

              A virtue? Possibly. A weakness, definitely.

                heee, heee, heee. I remember a hymn sung by a chorus on the National Lampoon Radio Hour back around 1975. Why I remember it is not clear, it must have touched my soul. Madtown has retriggered memories.

                Onward Christian Soldiers
                Drench the land with gore
                Mercy is a weakness
                Of the godless whore

                So Madtown was already a living joke in 1975! I see online a parody of that song, maybe it is the same one.

                Onward, Christian soldiers!
                Eat and drink your fill;
                Rob with bloody fingers,
                Christ O. K.'s the bill.
                Steal the farmer's savings,
                Take their grain and meat;
                Even though the children starve,
                The Saviour's bums must eat.
                Burn the peasant's cottages,
                Orphans leave bereft;
                In Jehovah's holy name,
                Wreak ruin right and left.
                4. Onward, Christian soldiers!
                Drench the land with gore;
                Mercy is a weakness
                All the gods abhor.
                Bayonet the babies,
                Jab the mothers, too;
                Hoist the cross of Calvary
                To hallow all you do.
                File your bullets' noses flat,
                Poison every well;
                God decrees your enemies
                Must all go plumb to hell.

                  Harlan, perhaps you should join the Judean People's Front crack Suicide Squad.

                    ...never mind.

                      I think the private sector needs to fix this problem. McDonalds should set up a few TV's. Hook the TVless up to special cholesterol monitors. As long as they're buying fries and Macs they can stay and watch the tube.
