well i think we just got one giant answer from this episode

they went back in time to 1974, and now they're in 1977

when the plan crashes the second time with the ocieanic 6 they are taken back to 1977, to the time when the other survivors are.

they bring john locke back with them, he comes back to life.

he will become the leader of the others like he told richard alpert in the 50's. he will then be the man giving alpert and ben the orders to wipe out dahrma.
