Sorry to hear about your dog's incontinence. It sucks when our bodies start to betray us.Originally posted by MJZiggy View PostMy old dog is now officially incontinent. What to do with a 13-year-old dog who pees in her sleep...
If you don't like Whiskey's solution, which is drastic, start her on a continuous coffee IV drip. You might think that would just exacerbate the peeing problem but it will also keep her awake. If she is able to control where she goes that might be a workable solution. Don't think I'm advocating some inhumane solution either. Dogs sleep 95% of their life away, surely she has enough sleep stored up that a bout of insomnia wouldn't hurt her.

Dog diapers or have her put down. You'll have to take her's and your own quality of life into account. You assumed the role of her pack leader knowing this day would come.Originally posted by MJZiggy View PostAt least they can put a diaper on me. What am I supposed to do with her?
I guess you could also try just giving her water only on a regular schedule so you can avoid her sleeping with much in her bladder."You're all very smart, and I'm very dumb." - Partial

Good answer. Plus you can always crate the dog at night, but you're going to have a clean-up routine every day.Originally posted by SkinBasket View PostDog diapers or have her put down. She's had a violent fear of the crate since she was about 7 months old when I came home from work to find her panicked. I think lightning must have struck just outside the window or something. I think the temporary solution until we find something better is going to be to replace the insides of her dog bed with small animal bedding like cedar shavings or something. Then we just hope she starts sleeping on the tile floor in the bathroom as it gets too warm in her dog bed. At least that I can clean up, but the wood floors are a little tricky.Originally posted by mraynrand View PostGood answer. Some kind of lined secondary containment of the dog bed. Lots of commercial absorbents available. As long as the dog only sleeps in that bed while in the house........
If you enjoy the animal then there is no reason to put it down for peeing in it's sleep. I would have been dead long ago if that was the case...

That's the challenge, keeping her in the bed. She likes the floor. I wonder if I put a puppy pad on the floor would she sleep on it.Originally posted by Freak Out View PostSome kind of lined secondary containment of the dog bed.
