So, I'm thinking of ditching DirecTV. I did the math, and it seems that since I don't watch anything on DTV besides football, that it would cost $71.25 per game to watch the games provided none of the games were on regular TV. Since some of the games are on regular TV, it costs even more per game. If two games are broadcast nationally, and I'm only watching 14 games per season on DTV, then the cost per game becomes $81.43. For that kind of money, it would be cheaper to go to the sports bar to have dinner and watch the game, no?"Greatness is not an act... but a habit.Greatness is not an act... but a habit." -Greg Jennings

I've been thinking the exact same thing. I get most of my news off the internet anyway. NFL playoffs, Super Bowl, World Series, NCAA Basketball Tourney are all on network T.V. still.Originally posted by MJZiggy View PostSo, I'm thinking of ditching DirecTV. I'm thinking of taking it a step further. I'm not sure I can justify my cost of a cell phone given how many calls I make. Getting rid of it would drive some family members crazy, but they'd adjust.Last edited by Joemailman; 02-20-2011, 12:51 PM.I can't run no more

To be honest, the cost savings from losing satellite would be directly applied to the phone bill as I've now upgraded the service to a smartphone which I use a whole lot more than DTV. I also use the barcode scanning apps (has saved me a bit of $$ already) and navigation a whole lot. It was nice to be downtown yesterday and in two clicks, get a map with all of our options for lunch in a mile radius. It was also nice to be able to see when the next train was going to show up at the station because they're doing maintenance all weekend. Don't get me started on the wisdom of closing all of the train stations near the presidential monuments on president's day weekend. Idiots.Originally posted by Joemailman View PostI've been thinking the exact same thing. I get most of my news off the internet anyway. I've been thinking of dumping comcast for similar reasons. the only thing i watch is sports. the only reason we have it is because of the on-demand feature for the kids. they are 3 and 6 and watching age appropriate cartoons on demand is nice. I've been thinking of subscribing to netflix. any info on the amount of kids shows available to stream?

I just looked and saw a copy of the Labyrinth. Nice. There are a decent amount of movies there. But my blu ray player also plays Hulu so you could get kids programming that way too if you have that option available to you."Greatness is not an act... but a habit.Greatness is not an act... but a habit." -Greg Jennings

You have to click around a little bit in the kids section. They show 21 on the home screen broken down into categories. If you click on the category, it gives you more choices. For example, there are about 50 titles under Critics Picks, and some of them are really good (like Up).Originally posted by Little Whiskey View Postmy bluray player is my ps3. not sure if i can get hulu on that.
if you browse netflix's selection of titles they only show 21. they have to have more than that. i would hope!"Greatness is not an act... but a habit.Greatness is not an act... but a habit." -Greg Jennings
