Certainly not for lack of effort. I'm just not that good at it I guess.

On a serious note (for once), I'd like to give my take on things here.

This place has been a community now for over 3 years...and the people here have been a community for probably a few years past that (I started posting on JSO in 2004).

This community left JSO because they needed protection from LJ (also Mike the admin was starting to delete threads). They went to CE, but quickly left when the administrator there tried to censor them a bit (so that they didn't offend the religious members of the board).

Harlan and MTP did a good job here by being relatively hands off. Yes, there were mods, and yes people occasionally got banned for short periods of time. MTP would occasionally pipe in to yell at someone, but it was never really back with any teeth. Any even when it was, he and the mods were longstanding members of the community and everyone was allowed to voice their opinion.

Admin - I respect what you are trying to do and honestly believe that you want to make this board a great place to be. But I honestly think it is heading down a dangerous path for you. This crowd is already bristling as you, an anonymous lurker who all of a sudden appeared and took over the forum, who launches threats and alienates long standing members of the forum. I've been singled out several times, although my behavior never warranted a comment into the years prior to your reign.

I think you've crossed the tipping point and it is only a matter of time before you've alienated enough of the board members that this place will become a ghost town and they will have gone somewhere else - to a place where they again feel like they have some ownership.

I hope you can get a good pulse on how this community functions and what role an administrator here really needs to play. It certainly belongs to you now, but a forum is a community and without its members it is nothing.

And as a final note, I'm not sure if you included me in your list of 8 to 9 troublemakers, and you've never contacted me personally to tell me I am, but if so, I think you are way off base.

Branding Harv as a troublemaker is like giving Ghandi a ticket for jaywalking. He's been nothing but a gentleman here for years, and years and years. He's one of the handful of guys that consistently go well out of their way to avoid any trouble.

Harlan only leaves on his own freewill, with long, dramatic farewell posts, only to return a few weeks later when he gets bored. :P
