I called Direct TV to cancel my NFL ticket tonight; a bit of a bummer

They told me of a new technology that would essentially network my HD/DVR to other TV's in the house. No install charge to me due to how long I've been a customer, I guess. So while I got sucked into a two year committment, my wife and I will now be able to DVR and watch HD in our bedroom TV as well. I text'd her and let her know we can now watch porn on HD ! I guess we can also get Internet on the TV's as well. Should be interesting to test out. It's $3 more per month.

Last year for a similar but older service I had to give a two year committment as well as a $239 install fee. With only fiscal risk and extra beer a month I went for it
TERD Buckley over Troy Vincent, Robert Ferguson over Chris Chambers, Kevn King instead of TJ Watt, and now, RICH GANNON, over JIMMY JIMMY JIMMY LEONARD. Thank you FLOWER

I bought a blu ray player instead. Never use it for the blu ray, but get Netflix, Hulu, youtube and a bunch of other stuff on it. I use bf's netflix account so it doesn't cost me anything.

The fiber optic system I have experience with is AT&T Uverse. (They use that "uverse" brand to describe both fiber and non-fiber systems, to endless confusion. When both TV & Internet are offered, it is fiber.) I never tested the bandwidth, but it seemed consistently fast. In theory neighborhood use could affect it the same way as copper wire ethernet. But I guess fiber-based systems are as fast as promised.

Yes, it was as fast as promised. The nerds who installed it made sure of it, and in practical (bittorrent) testing, it held. Having 5 Mbps upstream was a bit absurd but really helps with sharing ratios when you're pulling near the whole 50 across several torrents.

There are some great Internet deals down in America ....be happy you have those options. Up here.....it's expensive and shitty service no matter who you go with.

                      This is sweet.

Last year DirecTV started offering NFL Sunday Ticket To-Go access even to those who couldn't / wouldn't get their satellite packages, and it's upping the ante this year by bringing its slate of football games to the PlayStation 3. NFL Sunday Ticket To-Go is still a $50 add-on that adds HD streaming access on PCs and mobile devices, however this year there's also an app for the Motorola Xoom and Samsung Galaxy Android tablets. PS3 owners can get in on the action either by adding the To-Go option or paying a flat $339.95 without DirecTV service. Of course, it's still interested in enticing people to switch to the dish by offering Sunday Ticket at no additional charge for new subscribers -- just ask fairy Deion Sanders after the break. No word on any apps for Boxee, Roku and the rest, but other new additions for the 2011 season (now that the lockout is resolved and it's actually happening) include a new four channel mix with larger cells for those late afternoon games, and integration with NFL.com Fantasy Football that lets viewers keep up with their scores and players right on the TV. Update: Looking for the online only package for PCs and mobile devices from last year? It will become available September 1st, for the same $350 price as in 2010.
