I've had three Dell Laptops. All were refurbs. All had screen issues after one year. I fixed them. They came back again. As I type this I'm looking at 3 vertical blue lines. Annoying.

On all three, the stock hard drive crashed after 2 years. Replaced with after-market, no issues.

IMO, a Laptop is over-priced to begin with. If you are going to buy one, make sure you can get 4 - 6 years out of it without major issues.

I usually but a laptop with the intention of selling it after 2 years to recoup some of the cost.

Same here, except on one year. In college with the free iPod thing from Apple it was possible to break even if not come out ahead annually. Student discount + free iPod (flipped for cash) all on CL.

For the 99% of things Apple does really well, they cannot make a mouse. The Mighty Mouse sucks and the new mouse they put out also sucks I hear. Logitech Mx510 for the victory.

                • I have two Dell laptops, one a 17 inspiron and the other a 14 latitude....both have functioned flawlessly for three years now. I had an HP laptop and the screen died right after warranty and the macbook my wife uses has started to crack in certain areas after a year and a half....still works though.

I also have a thinkpad that's 7-8 years old and the sucker is bombproof. Running Ubuntu on it now.
