The diesel option is not available in the US.....I should have noted that was the distinction I was looking at.Originally posted by retailguyI must admit, I didn't read the article, but isn't this the same vehicle?Originally posted by Freak OutWhy the fuck doesn't Nissan sell this vehicle in the US (minus the right hand drive of course)?

Oh. That makes sense. Diesel will never "catch on" here like it has in Europe. We don't have the refining facilities to switch away from a primarily gas economy. Also, having Europe use diesel (primarily) and the US use gas (primarily) helps us to "balance" supply more effectively, and keep prices down actually (by maximizing product values and demand for them).Originally posted by Freak OutThe diesel option is not available in the US.....I should have noted that was the distinction I was looking at.Originally posted by retailguyI must admit, I didn't read the article, but isn't this the same vehicle?Originally posted by Freak OutWhy the fuck doesn't Nissan sell this vehicle in the US (minus the right hand drive of course)?

You have to produce a certain amount of gas and diesel from a barrel of oil. You can't produce all diesel (distillate), and you can't produce all gas, (though you have some discretion on minimizing one or the other depending on the composition of your refinery). We can (and do) send both products back and forth...
I realize that's more than what you were looking for, but, that's the way it is, at least today.... Look at the Mercedes diesel options. I think they still make them. Haven't checked in a few years though.

Benz has always made great diesels....I had a 300D for a few years and loved it. I have a VW diesel now and love the MPG....I have heard some very good things about the Nissan diesels and would love for them to bring them to the US.....just like I wish Toyota would bring their diesels to the US. The age of the soot belching diesels is gone and the new diesels offer amazing MPG.Originally posted by retailguyOh. That makes sense. Diesel will never "catch on" here like it has in Europe. One of the guys that I work for has a Jetta diesel. He likes it a lot, but is always on a "quest" for a service station on his route that carries diesel. It is tough to find sometimes.Originally posted by Freak Outhttp://www.autobloggreen.com/2009/07/01/diesels-grab-81-of-volkswagen-jetta-sportwagen-sales-in-june/

That's not an issue up here...because of the number of diesel trucks it's everywhere.Originally posted by retailguyOne of the guys that I work for has a Jetta diesel.
