They do A/B testing. I'm in the test group. I don't like it.

DEAR ABBY: At the age of 72, having had two spouses over the years, I need to put in my two cents regarding the letter from "Still Hot and Bothered in Georgia" (July 8). I have learned that some women won't say "no!" to a husband's amorous advances, especially in the morning. But they will try to distract him by scrubbing the tub, spotting a spider on the wall, feeding the cat or saying she forgot to fold the laundry and has to do it before it wrinkles. Whether it's conscious or unconscious, they do it to cool their husbands off on a "hot" morning.

"Still Hot and Bothered" may need to give some thought to what turns his wife on or off - especially the timing. After all, we are from Mars and they are from Venus. - Alex Blue Bell, Pa.

I suspect they don't like you in the test group either.

Or they just don't like you. Period.

Is A/B some sort of STD that you are testing for? How did you get it?

I could be wrong, but I believe it's sort of an akronym. It stands for Asshole/Bastard testing. You see, much like a marketing focus group, they assemble a sampling group of Assholes/Bastards to test the multiple layers of stupidity against the actual usability of the Google front page. Google has put many years of research and millions of dollars into testing to keep the reputation of their front page at google.com at the top of the "even an idiot could use it" category.

                  I could be wrong.

                        1. I do like the new look (buttons, text) from Google in WebKit Browsers. It looks like ass in firefox 3.x.x (whatever I'm running at work on my PC). Time to improve the font for FF on Windows.

                        2. I'm getting a fade effect today from Google. Lots of A/B testing lately. Anyone else getting this?

Here are two screen shots. First is pre-fade, second is post-fade.

I hope they are not putting eye candy ahead of substance. Microsoft already has that deal perfected.

Really doesn't look like Google at all.
