I didn't sense there was a clamor for either Letterman or Woods to apologize and explain themselves. Seems like the situations were self-explanatory.Originally posted by PatlerThe problem that he and others run into is that if he says nothing, many will complain. When he talks, just as many are unsatisfied.
I think most men were secretly admiring of Tiger (perfect name), especially the stories of his sexual prowess. Nobody cared to even think about Letterman having sex, so that was a giant NO CARE.

I guess it depends on how most guys would have valued being married to someone like Elin. I think a lot of men thought he had it made with that marriage and can't fathom that he'd have screwed it up (literally) the way he did.Originally posted by Harlan HucklebyI said secretly. The dude from Best Damn Sports Show went on Geraldo saying that Tiger was just doing what guys do. Uh, no, not even most celebrity guys behave like Tiger did.
I don't understand why people universally ascribe such porcine ideals to all men. A few years ago I handled my first mid-life crisis by going back to singing in a bar band. One night a very appreciative lady wearing a snowmobile suit sat at a table close to the band, drank a good dozen Budweiser long necks and smoked a whole pack of Marlboro reds while listening to me croon and wail. After the gig, she invited me to a party she was throwing at her place. I could have declined because of the missing teeth and strange odor, but I didn't. I declined because it would have been wrong to betray my marital vows. So there. At marital fidelity at least I consider myself to be better than Tiger.[QUOTE=George Cumby] ...every draft (Ted) would pick a solid, dependable, smart, athletically limited linebacker...the guy who isn't doing drugs, going to strip bars, knocking around his girlfriend or making any plays of game changing significance.

I agree that the BDSS guy shouldn't make a blanket statement like that, but what do you expect from that disaster of a show and then Geraldo?Originally posted by swedeThe dude from Best Damn Sports Show went on Geraldo saying that Tiger was just doing what guys do. Uh, no, not even most celebrity guys behave like Tiger did....
And I don't know about most, but there is an entire cottage industry devoted to catering to the celebrity guys and athletes who want to be at clubs, in a private area with plenty of women around. The woman at the center of Woods scandal early (Rachel Uchitel) was a party organizer and one of her main jobs was to find women to attend the functions.
Now not every celebrity (or athlete) with cash and access to these parties is married, and not even all the single ones run off with the party girls at the end of the night. But the girls are there for a reason, and that is to ensure everyone is happy. Either with the scenery or with the choices. And it is no coincidence that this particular girl (and one other he was linked to who did a similar job in Vegas) has not talked. She wants to stay in business, which means secrets are kept.
So athletes and celebrities have choices and an entire support system that more conventionally compensated individuals do not have access to regularly. This doesn't make them all pigs or all guilty, but it makes the temptation all the more accessible.
As you point out though, it eventually comes down to making a choice. All the other factors just make it easier to rationalize and cover up. The only person who should be getting any satisfaction out of this is Doug Christie's wife. Turns out she wasn't far off the mark.Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.

You silly girl. The prurient interests of males have NOTHING to do with marriage. I think most men agree with you that his sneaky behavior, and the risk that he put his family in, are detestable.Originally posted by MJZiggyI guess it depends on how most guys would have valued being married to someone like Elin. But on another more primitive level, I am certain that men are fascinated by the stories of The Tiger's sexual feats. Maybe it is more jealousy than admiration, but there certainly is a fascination. I myself have wondered what it would be like to have an endless supply and variety of high quality poon tang. (The first word that comes to mind is "tiring")

I applaud your loyalty to Lena, Sven. Maybe Tiger is a lot hornier, and a lot more emotionally needy than the average bloke. Fidelity might be easier for some people than others.Originally posted by swedeAt marital fidelity at least I consider myself to be better than Tiger.
Its sort of like some people find it easy to resist a chocolate sundae.

I agree that a portion of men--less than 50% I would guess--would take the trouble to get married and then pursue extramarital affairs. I am not accomplished at making polls, but were you to create one Dawg, I believe that more than 50% of respondents are not "fascinated" or impressed by Tiger's exploits, nor would they desire to replicate them. Keep in mind that single guys can go get all they want as far as I am concerned. I simply do not feel that there is a universal understanding that married men having extramarital affairs represents normal behavior.Originally posted by Harlan Huckleby

If he were single, it might be a different story. The collateral damage here wipes out any thoughts I might have about living vicariously through Tiger. Though I do wish I could putt like him.

No, not that it would have been more understandable, but when Clinton did it, men's attitudes (expressed in their comments at the time) suggested that they were far more understanding in that case considering his wife was Hillary.
Then again, I guess I am saying that in many men's minds, what he has at home makes a difference. I just don't happen to believe it does.
