Do you not remember the story of the murder of Joe Crotteau and 5 others in northern WI? Obviously the truck belonged to a buddy. Why ridicule it?Originally posted by SkinBasketNothing like buying a truck that also serves as a tombstone. Would it be considered tasteless to cover that name in tape and put someone I know on there?

It's not the truck I'm ridiculing. It's the prospective buyer. Well maybe the seller a bit too. If this "memorial" means so much to this person, why sell the truck with it still on there? Seems like selling a graveyard plot with someone else's tombstone on it. Or a nice vase with your wife's ashes still in it.Originally posted by PatlerDo you not remember the story of the murder of Joe Crotteau and 5 others in northern WI? It's just a sign, not remains, not something permanent like land. I suspect both the seller and the buyer expect it will be painted over. It was just a temporary commemoration to the man's friend. Don't try to make it something more than it was.Originally posted by SkinBasketIt's not the truck I'm ridiculing. It's the prospective buyer. Well maybe the seller a bit too. Empty graveyard plots, some with "unfinished" stones are sold from one to another. The stone is simply removed.

The comparisons I was making were based on the owner's emotional link to the item being sold to someone without that link. Like removing the ashes, or the tombstone, removing the message before selling the truck seems like the decent thing to do. I apologize if you're offended by my speaking without solemn gravity about a pickup truck with a commemorative message painted on it, but I don't feel that not showing the truck or the prospective buyer or would-be seller the respect I would owe the dead man, if I knew him, is somehow inappropriate. Maybe it's just me.
Dead people are just people who are dead. I understand some people have emotional attachments to some of those dead people. I don't have a problem with someone expressing that attachment on a truck. But selling that truck with that expression still attached cheapens that attachment more than anything I could say, in my opinion."You're all very smart, and I'm very dumb." - Partial
