  • name the football movie

Yes, it might be off topic but I need your help.

The quarterback of the Vikings got knocked around some
in that playoff game in New Orleans.

There was a movie about an aging quarterback who was
beaten down in a championship game.

I think; the QB was wearing a Saint uniform.
This movie was in the late 60's or early 70's.

Would like to know the name.
It might of have been based on the Y A Tittle's bashing by
the Bears in the early 60's.

    Thanks

I loved North Dallas Forty. Of course, the team was fictional. I think it was based on the Hollywood Henderson-era Cowboys though.

Heaven Can Wait was about the Rams QB gettin' IT. Starred Warren Beatty.
But Rodgers leads the league in frumpy expressions and negative body language on the sideline, which makes him, like Josh Allen, a unique double threat.

Number One was an American film released in 1969 by United Artists and directed by Tom Gries.
The film starred Charlton Heston as Ron "Cat" Catlan, aging quarterback for the New Orleans Saints and Jessica Walter as his wife. Musician Al Hirt plays himself, as do several real-life members of the 1968 Saints. The football scenes were shot at the Saints' then-home field, Tulane Stadium.

Hope this is the one you were looking for.

What's with this "staying on task" crap?

You all are messing with my "North Dallas Forty" feng shui.

North Dallas Forty was about the Don Meredith era Cowboys, with a few other elements thrown in. If you watch some clips of Meredith doing early MNF then watch NDF with Mac Davis, you'll hear the actor trying to sound like the QB.

It was based a book by Pete Gent (I think he did the screenplay as well) that followed a similar path of books at the time (starting with Ball Four as far as I know) that tried to pull the curtain down on professional athletes as heroes. I have always thought that the young QB in the movie backing up Davis' character at QB was supposed to be Roger Staubach though nothing is explicitly linked. He is convinced by Davis, to his own horror, to rationalize having cheated on his wife and not bother to tell her if I remember correctly.
Bud Adams told me the franchise he admired the most was the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he asked for more hookers and blow.
