I'm looking to use my plasma tv as a monitor for my laptop. the only outputs on my laptop is a S-video and vga (or svga i don't know how to tell the diff). my tv does not have a vga/svga, but does have S-video. I noticed that when i connect via the s-video output the picture is not nearly as clear and crisp as it looks on my laptops monitor. any suggestions on how to get a better picture? I cannot make hardware changes to the laptop, since it is a work computer.

    thanks for the help

If your TV doesn't have a VGA in (I'd be surprised if it doesn't), you can get a VGA to HDMI adapter.

If your TV doesn't have HDMI, you're probably out of luck.

      thanks zool,

I saw those, but didn't know if they were worked or if i would see the difference between that and s-video.

my tv does have a hdmi, but not vga.

VGA is going to give you a much better picture than Svideo. The adapter works just fine, I have one on one of my TV's.

thanks Retail. Do you think that it matters the brand that you get? the reason I ask is that i've found them price anywhere from $30 up to well over $100. Monopriced.com has one for $30.

its only a 42" screen Red.

I buy all of my cables and such from monoprice. Pretty sure that's where my adapter came from, and I highly doubt I paid more than that. Mine works perfectly.

VGA gives a clear picture when you are using the windows desktop. The Svideo picture is clear while watching the movie or whatever you're streaming but when I used the Svideo cable while using the computer it was blurry and grainy. That's gone completely with VGA.

My screen is a 37 inch, so I have to use my glasses.

Hey, jack weed. I may be "little," but I get more action in a week than you've had your whole life. I've got houses in LA, Hawaii, Vail and Paris, with a seventy inch plasma screen in each one of them. So I suggest you wipe that friggin' smile off your face before I bite it off. You feelin' strong, friend?

VGA to Component video would be preferable. The adapters are cheaper and you're just changing ends rather than messing with signals. Let the TV switch it back to digital rather than some vga to hdmi converter.
