We have these things... they are called phones. Greatly reduces the occurrence of family members breaking and entering in the middle of the night.

I also think their is a significant difference between the sound of a key unlocking a door versus a door being smashed open buy a sledge hammer and a crowbar.

I don't know what kind of drunk friends wouldbuck has, but my drunk friends know better to come into my home at 2:00am. I have children and I will protect them even against my friends' own stupidity.

Seriously though who ever just unloads at a silhouette? Lots of people with a gun for home defense have a flashlight too, as do most burglars I would imagine.

It's just a cultural thing. For a long time we've been into debate over the social value Vs cost of 'the Long Gun Registry'. It's mainly a political football up here. I feel it's the use of handguns that should draw the concern of the Politicians. Not my hand me down fr. a relative after death, single barreled 20 guage. It's weapons that can be easily concealed that should draw the greatest concern and need for registration asconcerns their use in intended crimes.

I have a zero problem with a man having the means to defend his home and family if the absolute need arises. I also have to weigh in on the chance that handgun can be involved in an accident. The long gun can as well.

A man/woman should have the right to bear arms without too much political juggling.

Therefore...I stand down in favour of your needs 'as American citizens', to protect all that's yours.

OK I get it. You have a 2 AM curfue on Uncle Bob entering your home to deliver some mail. The son who normally stays over at the girlfriends and gets in an unexpected controversy 'over whatever, and decides to return to Mom and Dad's place for some peace and sleep. He needs to make that call first.

I do believe a loud dog is a safer response than a loaded handgun for too many reasons and examples of past regretful accidents involving the taking of an innoscent life.

Also... I do believe you have a right to bear arms to protect home and person. To me it's an easier call with tht dog just ready to snarl and bark at anone coming near your home.

Then you should also be concerned with registering knives, lead pipes, and people's hands, all of which can be presumed to have a role in a possible crime. A handgun is a machine. Plastic, metal, and wood. It doesn't make decisions or have intent, and it does not fire of it's own accord.

I'll say it again. Most of the fear surrounding guns is based in ignorance and sociopolitical misrepresentations meant to advance agendas. Which is understandable when you consider that the extent of most non-gun owners' education in regards to firearms is limited to having seen Boyz in the Hood. Presuming legal gun owners (who are the only people registries or any other government bureaucracy will actually affect) have a criminal intent is the result of your preconditioning.

Yeah, there are tragic accidents involving handguns. There are also tragic accidents, and crimes, involving vehicles, domestic animals, power tools, poisons, non-power tools, knives, fire, water, and a wide range of other heavy and/or sharp things. Where are your registries for those things?

Actually this is a more realistic senerio, I have a trained dog of death, a child comes to the front door, or a next door neighbor kid and the dog doesn't recognize the person, jumps threw the screen door and mames some poor inocent kid. It happens all the fucking time here in America, of course the dogs are not trained and are actually brutalized into ravaged beasts, but I would take a bet that more people die from dog attacks in this country then getting shot for coming home at 2:00am. That is the fear that the lovely liberals love to spread around about gun control. That a handgun will be used on your own family because you are to stupid to use a gun without killing someone you love on accident.

If you are looking for home defense use a shotgun. Just my opinion, but if you are protecting what is important (family) a pistol won't do as good of a job, plus when the heart is pumping they are very inacurate. two hands steady your aim a lot more. If it is for fun of target shooting with a pistol that is a totally different story.
