Anyone here with knowledge of Milwaukee neighborhoods?? My Daughter will be attending MIAD this Fall, and the campus is in the Third Ward.

However, the residence hall is an apartment complex located close to Riverside Park near Park Place and Oakland Ave. CAn you help a dear old Dad with feeling OK with where his 18 year-old Daughter will be living??

    Thanks, IM

Your daughter will probably be raped and then murdered by the end of September. Get her an apartment in Waukesha County, and a car to travel to school.

Listen to nuts. He's spent more time amongst the poor in that area. Although if she rides the bus to campus she should be safe. Not even black people ride the bus. They're like hulking empty study halls rumbling about the city at the taxpayer's expense.

You should also get in touch with partial. He could show her all the best bars to grab bartender's boobs, if your daughter's into that.

At least the third ward is nice and safe. Even has a wonderful farmers market right under the interstate so everything gets a nice coating of gasoline, oil, and tire rubber.

Honestly, I would have her get her a concealed carry permit ASAP. You need one to carry a taser. They make excellent graduation gifts.

Well I'm glad you beat Skin to the punch and broke the news to IM gently.

My first apartment was on Oakland Ave near Farwell foods. Three other UW-Milwaukee students and I walked into our crappy gray asphalt-sided upper/lower on a sub-zero January morning to find that it had been broken into, the pipes had frozen, and the furnace was out of fuel oil. Two hundred bucks later we had fuel and the place warmed up enough to show us 19 year olds how pipes split open and shower walls and ceilings with water after they freeze and thaw again. After a 900 dollar plumbing bill we later learned how the criminally insane in Milwaukee County were taken out of secure institutions and placed into the management structure of Fox Realty.

Your daughter should be fine as long as she observes, and I mean absolutely observes the recommended safety and security protocol for young women in Milwaukee: never go alone.

She has to stay in the designated residence hall the first year of school....which I guess should last about a month.

Well, so far I haven't noticed anyone shot in the park yet.....

Are you talking about this place???

My Son and I bought her gift certificates in the neighborhood, so that she won't have to eat ramen noodles the entire first semester. One of the places was directly across the street from Koppa's.

My daughter hasn't received her housing assignment at Iowa yet! Considering she will be there in less than 2 months is making me a lil nervous.

                            Lisa's Pizza is good stuff!

Oakland Ave. isn't a bad neighborhood. West of the Milwaukee River is where it starts to get iffy, but Oakland Ave is okay. Mostly college kids attending UWM and local stoners who usually keep to themselves.

She moved even further away this year. She's on Kenwood Blvd., between UW-M and Hwy 32. A longer bus trip to get to school, but OTOH, only a block and a half to get to the hot dog joint:
