Mazzin, maybe he wouldn't give you a real answer because it was none of your business. And posting PMs kind of defeats the purpose of Private Messeges. Especially when you use the text of the messege to make accusations and generally shit all over some one. I can guarantee you he isn't scared of you. He may be tired of your crap, but he ain't scared - especially of having juvenile insults hurled at him.

A quick $.02 re: multiple IDs ...

Many folks have the opinion this forum is a more friendly place than others on the web ... a place where debate is spirited and yet respectful ... a place where members make plans to meet each other in person as friends ... hell, we even have the friendliest and most respectful "troll" I've ever met, one who has been a part of said meetings despite being a fan of the Dread Purple.

It's my opinion that the ban on multiple IDs is directly responsible for this positive environment ... perhaps even more so than the fact that lurkers must register in order to read content. You get ONE identity here, and everything you say is attributable to that single identity. If you want to be repected and welcomed in this friendly place, you will be compelled to conduct yourself in a socially acceptable manner.

With multiple IDs, this social reinforcement is lost. You could hide behind different identities in order to post something nasty one minute and friendly the next ... and if you regret being nasty, no harm if you stop using that "nasty" ID. Just create another one the next time something nasty comes to mind.

Under the current setup, nasty posts have social consequences. The result is an almost total lack of the behavior the Internet is famous for---statements made in print that a person would never say to another's face. I think it's wise to keep it that way.

Regarding the argument that multiple IDs could be used for good rather than evil ... it's a trade off I think most of us are willing to make. We value the atmosphere here enough that we will preclude the occasional comic alter-ego in order to preserve it. FWIW, mraynrand, I thought your "Cleft Crusty" column was well-received and very funny even when posted under your own ID.

Whether you agree with it or not, the matter was put to a vote here at PR, and membership was overwhelmingly against posters using multiple accounts.

You're right. But that doesn't change my position that I haven't heard one good argument against multiple accounts.

The only good argument against multiple accounts you need to hear is that our membership voted against it. And that makes all other arguments irrelevent at this point.

I've been involved with decisions here that I didn't initially agree with too. But once the decision is made by the vote, or by Mad and the admins - I get on board and support the decision and the site because that's what is best for our community. The time to make a difference with your input/arguments is before the vote. When you complain about it afterwards, it just sounds like sour grapes. It's counter productive.

I suggest you adopt a pet cause that is more constructive. We've wasted enough time on this. It's no big deal, and certainly not worth arguing over.
