I know a few peeps that live towards the Yosemite area that have to use it. From what I have heard it drops connection often. They didnt live in the way up in mountains either, just the foothills area.

I have used the different services many times...download speed can be fine but upload blows....it is also affected by weather phenomenon obviously. It's a godsend in rural AK. It is probably MUCH more reliable where you live due to your lower latitude.

I think that bitch is moving to a wooded area. Didnt he say he was buying a big property in the hills? But yeah, speed is about like bottom tier DSL.

Moderate down depending on weather. You're not going to love it. In this rural fortress, if you can get 4G then go to sprint with unlimited data and use your phone as a hotspot.

Stop being a cheapskate and build your own damn dish. That's what I did:

The neighbors don't like it, but a 10MB/second, too bad

Plus you can fricasee birds in mid-flight.

Heard from a friend that the satellite internet was hit and miss.

I can get a better brief if you like.

Well I pretty much have one option. Guess we'll try this hughesnet. There's a rumor the land mogul across the road has a T1 line for the hunting resort he runs, but I don't understand how that would work, having a private cable line. Maybe I'll blow him and get a tie in.

Well now the phone company says they can deliver 5mbps down, for $30 a month versus 15 for $100 a month on satellite. How fast is that? Would that be 500 on my porn torrent download thing?

5meg down isn't bad. Nextflix etc will have no issues streaming.

They'll upgrade to the faster lines at some point too, so I'll be able to get up to 100Megafizzles or whatever, so I think this is my choice.

Personally I'd avoid satellite and go with the phone. Much more consistent service.

Satellite is awful. The bandwidth is good but the latency associated with it makes it unusable for certain things. Namely online games.

So long as you can place your online orders for all that just-add-water meals before the world goes to hell, that's all that matters doesn't it?

                              that, and clean water.
