Sounds like a pretty common scam to me, only more personalized than I've ever seen it done before.

I believe these are called 419 scams for people interested in learning about more common ones. I get a ton now that i'm on eBay, and they come in all forms.

These guys are good, they use images and html in email to make it look authentic and whatnot. Hell, sometimes they can even fake the email domain (@paypal.com). You've got to be very careful. Anything that asks you to click a link, verify information, or anything involving money I get to that companies homepage using a google search and call their 1-800 number.

Thounsands of people have lost their life saving by being taken advantage of this way. This one is really obvious, some are not. Hell, I was almost tricked into shipping an xbox thinking a Western Union money order was being delivered to me since they faked it so well.

It only got a little weird when I stopped responding to emails and they came out of their cover within an hour or so of our exchange.

Without question, you can trust this guy like a family member. I say send him all of your private information because you may only get a chance at this once.

(Warning. The following is for spoof purposes only.)

Dear loyal and valued PackerRats patrons:

As you know, I will be running the semi-annual PackerRats telathon this Labor Day weekend. Proceeds will go towards ending world hunger, curing AIDS and making sure they don't shut off Mad's electricity again for non-payment.

Our Top 10 donors will receive 2 40 yard line (15th row) tix to the Bears game in Lambeau a week from Sunday - including a pre-game field pass. And our Grand Prize Donor will win an all expense paid weekend for four beaver hunting trip to Hattiesburg, MS, hosted by Brett Favre himself. Enjoy Sunday "Breakfast with Bonita", and Saturday evenings gala extrodianaire "Dancing With Deanna". And you know how that Brett loves kids. John Deere will be sponsoring a modified lawnmower/funny car drag racing event for juniors (kids under 7 need to bring their own fire suit). Hey kids, now's your chance to to beat Brett at his second favorite game, and like Brett says "nothing runs like a fuel injected, supercharged, nitrous fed Deere". It's sure to be a hot ticket.

So give from your heart. PackerRats has no big corporate sponsors, or the financial backing of a mediocre major daily newspaper. PackerRats runs because of the support from generous and compassionate viewers like you.

So do your part today. Right now. For the children. PM Honest Scott Campbell for PayPal donation instructions.

            Sincerely,

            Your PackerRats Staff.

Kevin Omah sounds rock solid and trustworthy. This Scott Campbell guy does not. Go with Omah big time.

How can I make it sound more legitimate? I'm open to suggestions.
