Question about Pro Golf

I don't much follow golf on TV. It kinda resembles paint drying. However, I see this big tournament is going on now called "The Open". Is that a new name for what used to be called "The U.S. Open"? Or a new tournament altogether? If so, why did they change the name?

Its the british open

i think the british have always just called it the "open", but we started calling it the "british open" because we have all kinds of other "opens" these days
