  • R.I.P. Merle Haggard

Damn. Maybe the good times really are over.

    I can't run no more
    With that lawless crowd
While the killers in high places
    Say their prayers out loud
But they've summoned, they've summoned up
    A thundercloud
They're going to hear from me - Leonard Cohen

Not much left of country music anymore... the pop-crap they play today is unlistenable.

The end will surely come when Willie dies - then we can expect to hear endless editorials on the hazards of smoking marijuana. Yes, Willie lived to be 114 years old, but if hadn't smoked pot, he could have lived to 130!!!

Yes it is. It's the main reason I have Sirius XM in my truck. Willie's Roadhouse and Outlaw Country stations are the only place you can find country music. At least in Wisconsin.

After lunch the players lounged about the hotel patio watching the surf fling white plumes high against the darkening sky. Clouds were piling up in the west… Vince Lombardi frowned.

I was studying a wee bit of the online stuff on Texas Holdem strategy when I came across what follows and decided I'd add it to this thread:

Merle Haggard: You Can't Bluff Willie Nelson

PokerListings Editor-in-Chief.... Matt Showell..... has a standing life dream to play in Willie Nelson's infamous Hawaii home game and now, thanks to Merle Haggard, he knows exactly how to play him if he ever does.

willie nelson ... He'll call you down.

The Country Music legend, who died yesterday on his 79th birthday, met Nelson playing poker in the early 60s. Since, their shared passion for the game never faded and the two met regularly to get some hands in.

Last year Haggard and Nelson put out their third and final record together - " Django and Jimmie " - and Haggard sat down with GQ Magazine after a show to talk about it.

They couldn't help but talk about poker, too. Here's the poker excerpt **:

                      RIP Merle.

The memory of the Virgin Islands; beautiful girl, making love for hours Vs settling now for flap-jacks....Ohh no....what aging does to the mind.

                            ..... I'd re-evaluate wist43.... Isn't your glass almost ?:
