ps4 or xbox one?

i had both ps3 and 360, and i liked the controller of the xbox much more

What kind of games do you want to play, Red? Look at the unique PS4/Xbox titles & base your choice on that, I'd say.

well, i bought an xbox one s today

it was a halo bundle for $250

so not bad

Is it working? The last two a friend bought (1S) had hardware problems out of the box. One was loud as hell and the other couldn't connect to any network, wired or otherwise.

i can't say i like the modern idea of having to install all the data off a disk and then having to download a 60 gb update for the game

That's why I got the ps4 over the xbox. Xbox has been pushing full time connectivity for years. Our only choice in the hills here is satellite internet, which has highly variable speeds and a 20GB cap (plus another 50 which is available from 2am-8am). And that's the highest plan available thanks to federal "accessibility" regulations. Anyway, get used to the fucking updates. Just about every game we've gotten needs at least a 2-3 GB "update" out of the box, with some needing anywhere from 5-10. Which means when my kids want to play a new game, I tell them to set their alarms early, go initiate the download, and go back to bed. But it really is like you say. Get a new game? Well, it's going to be awesome when you get to play it in 2 or 3 days. And then download another 1-5 GB of more system or game updates every week or two.

Makes me nostalgic for cartridges.

It'll be lower cost, will work in bad weather, ~50ms latency, consistently 8 mbit, with cheap equipment you own and no contract.

I started looking into that, after getting a mailer from some outfit that wanted to set up 10-20 foot antennas on properties, and would offer you discounted service for doing so. Problem is the nearest tower is Verizon, and even that isn't within 5 miles. Even now, we have an external antenna and indoor booster just to get a signal indoors. They built a new tower we have a direct sightline to two years ago, but (I assuming due to regulatory process and licensing) they have yet to hang even one antenna on it.

Anyway, found out a month ago that due to a state grant, they're rolling fiber optic up here, which was exactly the only way that was going to happen after the net neutrality bullshit. As of right now, they're kind of stuck at the property next to us while they sort out the buried portions of our road and set up a service platform/box (which will inevitably be drove over the top of several times a year). So I'll be rolling in uncapped 1 Gbps freedom in a month or two (when the neighbors aren't driving over the box or clipping it with a bean picker or a tobacco wagon). I'm going to download every porno ever made.
