I will be going to see Mike Doughty on Wednesday night, and the Gufs this upcoming saturday. There are quite a few good bands there, but I simply cannot afford the 15 dollars, 5 dollars bus fair, plus 5 dollars food more than once or twice.

Seems like one crazy bastard, but he's talented.

"I met a girl on roller skates
She had a spare bag, she had lost some weight
Where I used to work, she was a waitress
She proposed a trade, it was generous
She's gone to Houston, feel like I'm floating in a warm sea
And if she finds out when she comes back, I know that she will leave me
Oh I heard a sign, it was a dull crack
It was a clock hand, it was snapping back
Oh it wasn't her's, it was the dope's kiss
I'll take the blame upon my shoulder, I just love to feel like this
            Roller Boogie, motherfucker"

i've never heard that song. The first album i've heard from him was haughty melodic, and that is a masterpiece. At first it is very pop-sounding and cheery but when you really listen to the lyrics its seems to be about suffering. It's a really great album!!

Be sure to check out the promotions - you can save a dolla or two on admission. Paying full admission to Summerfest is for suckers.

Of course you get free admission with your ticket to the main amphitheater - which is also a huge sucker rip-off, since tix are sold by TicketSlave.

But as long as the weather holds, I will be at the Big Gig often.

Ya know, in case anyone wants to buy me a beer - hint, hint, to the minnesota man.

It's a great song called Houston off of Soul Coughing's signature album, El Oso. If you like Doughty, you'd probably like that album--although I can't be sure because I was a Soul Coughing fan first. Doughty's music is all about suffering.

I'd eat baked fish and spinach salad for a week to get that!!

We get to Wisconsin this year on July 10th, one day after Summerfest ends.
Bad timing on my part. Maybe next year.

But, if I was going, I'd be checking out some of these bands,

                          Jackie Green
                          Kings of Leon
                          Wrinkle Neck Mules
                          Yellowcard
                          My Morning Jacket
                          Flogging Molly
                          Wilco
                          BoDeans(of course)

                          Damn, now I'm depressed.

Any shows in Madison area that you guys recommend between July 10th and the 20th?

Definitely agree. I'm not one to get giddy over food, but I must say I look forward to this every year.

What acts are you guys excited to see?

The band (GingerJake) opening for my band's CD release party is opening for P.O.D. on July 7. Complicated statement, I know. Nonetheless, they're a local TC band. You should check them out. A very talented band (with a supahot lead singer).

You have no idea how cool Summerfest is. I miss it tremendously.

The Seattle area blows for outdoor concerts and festivals because of their super conservative alcohol laws. (Yeah - I thought the northwest was supposed to be a liberal area - ha!) You have to physically stay in the beer garden to consume your beverage, they stop serving 1-2 hours before the event is over, and the admission averages $25.00 for anything, sometimes as high as $50.00 just to get in.

I'm not really into any of the acts listed so far (Thanks FC!) but I would go to see Alice Cooper if he has his usuallly graphic stage show, and I would also go to see the Temptations - my Mom was really into them while I was growing up.

Also I'd go check out GingerJake at Jack's Smirking's recommendation.
