cyberski - Thanks so much for sharing this. I usually just do a reformat of my entire PC....never thought about just trying a registry repair type program.

It's scanning now...so far the scan is halfway done and up to 1300 errors and I just bought this laptop about 6 months ago. I do alot of trying out sample programs, so I'm constantly installing and removing programs..... so this should be a great fit for me.

I use Acronis True Image to restore to a known stable state. Works great, and has saved me countless hours of reinstalling Windows and programs.

What does it do?

Whelp, basically it goes through and checks your registry for and errors and repairs them. As you add and remove programs and the such, your registry gets clogged up with little bits of info that's not removed either properly, or completely, and over time it will start to take up massive amounts of your system resources resulting in slower boot times, slower surfing, slower everything. This program is regarded as one of the best registry editors out there, and the word is that the reason they are giving this version away is because it is not Vista compatible, so when Vista comes out next year and people find out how well this proggy works, they'll be more than happy to pay the $29 for the Vista version.

I went to link and registered.
They sent me an email with a password and another link to click to make sure I was serious.
Clicked the link and received another email with the serial.
Went to the site and signed in on the right side using my email and I copy and pasted the password.
On the toolbar at the site on the far right I clicked on My Account > Registered Products, which brought me to this page:



Clicked on the little + sign and then clicked on Get Update.
Got the download.

On a related note, Microsoft just announced they are pushing back Service Pack 3 for XP to 2008. They said something about being busy with the upcoming Vista release. BS!

SP3 will include DX10, and they want to make sure that people have at least some reason to upgrade to Vista, as Vista will include DX10 upon release. And it will be a more secure OS. Though they should do the responsible thing and shore up XP with another service pack release.

I still can't figure out why anyone would want to upgrade to Vista.

From what i've seen of it while playing around with a couple of betas hasn't made me interested in it at all. Only way i'd be having it is if I happen to access a new rig. If i build a new one i'd still stick w/XP though unless the prices come waaaay down for vista
